This is the second of a two-volume series containing a collection of writings of an autobiographical nature, as well as the correspondence of Sir Simonds D'Ewes, who served in Parliament during the reign of Charles I, but whose youth was during the reign of James I of England. In this volume, D'Ewes details the latter part of his life during the reign of Charles I and the English Civil War that broke out in 1642. Interestingly, the volume also contains a "Secret History of the Reign of King James I" beginning on page 319 of the book. The history is formed from a compilation of discourses by the Earls of Essex and others which proves quite interesting.
