Kann zeitgenössischer Kunst im Feld ethnologischer Museen ein epistemisches Potenzial zuerkannt werden, das sich jenseits herkömmlicher Erkenntnisformen zeigt? Beatrice Barrois konzentriert sich auf die Kategorie des (Nicht)Wissens als ästhetische Erfahrung im Ausstellungsraum und entfaltet so neue Sichtweisen auf künstlerische Positionen, die sich kritisch mit ethnografischen Sammlungen auseinandersetzen. Dabei wird schwerpunktmäßig die Ausstellung „Ware&Wissen (or the stories you wouldn´t tell a stranger)“ fokussiert, die 2014/15 im Frankfurter Weltkulturen Museum stattfand. Darüber hinaus werden Bezüge zu anderen ethnologischen Ausstellungen und Künstlern wie etwa Fred Wilson hergestellt. Mit ihrer epistemologischen Exkursion liefert die Autorin eine Perspektive, die Grenzen des Wissens deutlich und das künstlerische Experiment zum Gegenstand neuer Wissens(un)ordnungen macht.
Female Enterprise Behind the Discursive Veil in Nineteenth-Century Northern France
This volume explores the role of women in business in nineteenth-century Northern French textile centers. Lille and the surrounding towns were then dominated by big and small family businesses, and many were run by women. Those women did not withdraw into the parlour as the century progressed and the ‘separate ideology’ spread. Neither did they become mere figure heads - most were business persons in their own rights. Yet, they have left almost no traces in the collective memory, and historians assume they ceased to exist. This book therefore seeks to answer three interrelated questions: How common were those women, and what kind of business did they run? What factors facilitated or impeded their activities? And finally, why have they been forgotten, and why has their representations in regional and academic history been so at odd with reality? Indirectly, this study also sheds light on the process of industrialization in this region, and on industrialists’ strategies.

Der Begriff ‚Szenografie’ hat in nicht wenigen Disziplinen seine Heimstatt gefunden: Architektur, Bühne, Kunst, Design, Kuration, Landschafts- wie Stadtplanung und Kunstwissenschaft sind nur einige der Fachrichtungen, die ‚Szenografie‘ als Bezeichnung raumbezogener ästhetischer Phänomene in ihr Vokabular aufgenommen haben. Es hat sich ein Fachdiskurs zum Szenografischen entwickelt, bei dem nicht selten eine rhetorische Eigenlogik, eine argumentative Dynamik und ein interdisziplinärer Begriffstransfer zu beobachten ist.
