El legado andalusí en la cultura española plantea una reflexión sobre el mudéjar recurriendo a las obras de arte como documento plástico primordial para la construcción de la historia y como elemento material que permite hacer tangibles ideas, conceptos y fenómenos abstractos o complejos. Se han seleccionado unas 150 piezas originales de naturaleza muy diversa: encuadernaciones, cerámicas, muebles, tejidos, yeserías, cerrajería, armas y metalistería, planos, maquetas, fotografías. La muestra cuenta, además, con ambientación sonora, correspondiente a grabaciones de música mudéjar. La delimitación cronológica de las piezas seleccionadas como la del propio arte mudéjar abarca desde el siglo XII hasta el XVII, siendo éste un periodo muy amplio en el arte occidental europeo en el que se suceden los estilos románico, gótico, renacentista y barroco, con los que el mudéjar interrelaciona. En la muestra se incluyen también, para una adecuada contextualización, algunas piezas de arte andalusí que nos muestran cómo el arte mudéjar es pervivencia y desarrollo de esta tradición artística en la España cristiana.
