Breve Historia de Vizcaya y sus Instituciones
Vizcaya o Bizkaia. de las dos maneras ha sido denominado a lo largo de la historia de este pequeño territorio que en la Edad Media se constituyó en señorío jurisdiccional integrando, más tarde, otros territorios que anteriormente no formaban parte de él. Esta doble denominación, vasca y castellana, es claro exponente de la doble condición de Vizcaya-Bizkaia. Por un lado vasca, con sus rasgos diferenciales propios y por otro castellana pues formó parte de la Corona de Castilla con otros reinos y territorios medievales, con los que participó después en la formación de la Corona de España. No olvidemos, a este respecto, que el Señorío de Vizcaya acabó recayendo por herencia en el rey de Castilla en el siglo XIV. La presente obra pretende acercar al lector no especializado a esta doble realidad de Vizcaya-Bizkaia, poniendo de relieve, a través de su historia, su propia personalidad y su colaboración con los demás teritorios vascos y con los de el resto de España en la formación de este reino desde la baja Edad Media hasta nuestros días.
