Time, Action and Cognition
This volume is the outcome of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Time, Action and Cognition. which was held in Saint-Malo, France, in October 1991. The theme - time in action and cognition of time - was sparked by growing awareness in informal meetings between mostly French-speaking time psychologists of the need to bring together time specialists in the areas of development, motor behavior, attention, memory and representations. The workshop was designed to be a forum where different theoretical points of view and a variety of empirical approaches could be presented and discussed. Time psychologists tended to draw conclusions restricted to their specific fields of interest. From our own experience, we felt that addressing a common issue - possible relationships between time in action and representations of time - could lead to a more comprehensive approach. We are endebted to NATO for allowing us to bring this idea to fruition. We take this opportunity as well to express our thanks to Cognisciences ( Cognisud section) -- an active interdisciplinary research organization - for its financial backing and the CNRS for its scientific support.
La escuela infantil: observatorio privilegiado de las desigualdades
La escuela infantil se ha convertido en un observatorio privilegiado desde el que analizar la evolución de la sociedad occidental. El profesorado de educación infantil se mueve, a veces, en un terreno de incertidumbres que le obliga a superar ideas estereotipadas para buscar sentido a situaciones familiares poco comunes y adecuar a ellas la dinámica pedagógica cotidiana. Además del acercamiento a estos temas, el libro incluye propuestas para encauzar las distintas situaciones y ayudar a definir cuál podría ser la intervención educativa más adecuada.

A Psychology of Orientation
Psychological research using time as a variable has been extensive since the era of Wundt and Ebbinghaus. The care of and research on dementia patients highlights a unique need for understanding and applying the concepts of time and space. This volume, unique in its development of a model for time-space orientation, proposes that understanding the needs of these patients is increased by consideration of the ^Idis^Rorientation caused by dementia. Included is a review of the history of time and time measurement, a survey of psychological literature using time as a variable across the life span, and a model of time orientation applied to persons who have developed dementia. Conditions leading to dementia are described, and a rationale proposed for the effects of time/space disorientation in behavioral disturbances. Suggestions for applications and future research are included.
