Bereits seit einem Jahrzehnt ersetzen bzw. ergänzen Discovery-Systeme im Zuge stärkerer Nutzer- und Dienstleistungsorientierung herkömmliche Online-Kataloge vor allem in Wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken. Dem verwunderlichen Umstand, dass trotz ähnlicher Entwicklungslinien in Öffentlichen und Unternehmens-Bibliotheken Discovery-Systeme dort noch kaum verbreitet sind, begegnet diese Arbeit mit einer vergleichenden Gegenüberstellung der Bedarfs- und Angebotssituation für diese beiden Bibliothekstypen. Entscheidungsträgern in Unternehmens-Bibliotheken sowie in Öffentlichen Bibliotheken soll somit nicht nur erste Orientierung bei der Entwicklung und Erstellung eigener Anforderungsprofile angeboten werden, sondern Anbietern von Discovery-Lösungen Anregungen zur Anpassung Ihrer Angebotspalette für einen bisher nur ungenügend berücksichtigten Marktbereich aufgezeigt werden.

Praxishandbuch Schreiben in der Hochschulbibliothek
Die Bedürfnisse von Nutzerinnen und Nutzern bei der Wissensgenerierung sowie der Wandel der Bibliotheken zu Learning Spaces und Teaching Libraries haben Auswirkungen auf das Serviceangebot der Hochschulbibliotheken. Mit den Artikeln im vorliegenden Praxishandbuch wurden Best Practices zusammengetragen, wie Hochschulbibliotheken das wissenschaftliche Schreiben unterstützen können, auch im Rahmen der Förderung von Informationskompetenz. Ziele, Aufgaben und Umsetzungskonzepte werden angegeben. Weiter werden die organisatorischen Implikationen und verschiedene Formen der Vernetzung mit anderen Hochschuleinrichtungen (z. B. Schreibzentren) dargestellt. Die Beiträge beziehen sich auf Bibliotheken in Deutschland, in Österreich und in der Schweiz.

Cities, Regions and Flows presents a theoretical framework for understanding the changing relationship between places and physical movement, and thoughtfully prepared case studies from five continents on how cities relate to value chains, and how they ensure accessibility and urban liveability in an increasingly contested policy environment. Moreover, the book discusses how urban policies attempt to solve related conflicts in terms of infrastructure provision, land use, local labour markets and environmental sustainability. The two subsystems that are of major interest here - urban regions on the one hand, and logistics management and physical distribution on the other - develop in quite distinct, and often contradictory, ways. Whereas urban regions face disintegration due to the expansion of the built environment and the spatio-temporal fragmentation of life-worlds and regional systems, the logistics system itself demands integration in order to keep flows moving and to reduce costs. Physical flows, networks and chains thus have a fundamental impact on urban restructuring.

Das Buch ist der erste Überblick zu Lernzentren in Hochschulbibliotheken mit 21 Beispielen umgesetzter Lernraumkonzepte aus Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz; es hat nicht den Anspruch einer systematischen und repräsentativen Erfassung aller realisierten Konzepte in den wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken. Das Buch zeigt die Vielfalt der verschiedenen Lernraumkonzepte in den drei Ländern; im Unterschied zu den angelsächsischen Bibliotheken hat sich im deutschsprachigen Raum nämlich keine einheitliche Auffassung einer Lernraumkonzeption durchgesetzt. Die einzelnen Beiträge im Buch, so unterschiedlich sie letztlich von den Verfasserinnen und Verfassern geschrieben wurden, stellen die jeweiligen Lernzentrumsgestaltungen nicht ausschließlich unter bibliothekarischem Blickwinkel dar; sie betten sie darüber hinaus teilweise in innenarchitektonische und lerntheoretische, teilweise auch in raum- und gruppensoziologische Überlegungen ein.

Paradigm Shift in Urban Mobility
