Harry Bensley (1876 or 1877 - 21 May 1956) was an English rake and adventurer, best remembered as the subject of an extraordinary wager between John Pierpont Morgan and Hugh Cecil Lowther, 5th Earl of Lonsdale. How much of his story is based on fact is unclear. The man in the iron mask was allowed to finance his trip only through the sale of postcards and pamphlets relating to his journey from a pram that he was to push for the duration of the journey and at no point was he allowed to reveal his identity. The final challenge was that, despite keeping his face hidden, he had to find a wife.

Excerpt from Bensley: A Story of to-Day George 1 said the girls simultaneously, interpreting the word him by this proper noun, and with corres ponding unanimity turning their eyes upon one who clearly responded to this sponsorial. Yes, said the senior, you are petting and making a child of him. It is time he was in harness - time he laid out his furrow. Eh, George? Why George is only twenty one, said Emma, the elder of Mr. Bensley's children, and by the death of Mrs. Bensley, head of the household, and there is really no necessity for his adopting a profession so speedily. England on Five Dollars a Day

Joey Bensley recounts the 1971 adventure she engaged in with husband, Larry, and her four children: Jim, Bob, Karie, and Bill, as they lived in and explored various aspects of English living. From their first days in London-complete with both adventure and humor, as the American troupe traipsed through the bowels of the city-to living in a small and ancient English village, England quickly became a home away from home. She builds her story around the adventures of her family, beginning with Larry's sabbatical that afforded the trip, to the antics of her children: Jim's continual love for learning every lore possible; Bob, with his impish personality and ability to constantly challenge the sanity of his parents; Karie's steadfast and innate ability to both find enjoyment in daily living and ensure those she loves most share in that joy, and Bill's wonder at experiencing a new world that is both confusing and exciting from the perspective of a two-year old. Travel with the Bensley's as they engage in a whirlwind adventure through the British Isles.
