SSA Disability
The Social Security Admin. (SSA) serves 7.2 million disabled people & provides $53 million in cash benefits through the Disability Insur. (DI) & Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs. SSA encourages beneficiaries to return to work. However, only about 1 in 500 beneficiaries has left the rolls by returning to work. This report discusses weaknesses in the design & implementation of the DI & SSI programs that impede SSA from identifying & expanding the productive capacities of beneficiaries. Also presents information on key program trends.
