Weird Scientists is a sequel to Men of Manhattan. As I wrote the latter about the nuclear physicists who brought in the era of nuclear power, quantum mechanics (or quantum physics) was unavoidable. Many of the contributors to the science of splitting the atom were also contributors to quantum mechanics. Atomic physics, particle physics, quantum physics, and even relativity are all interrelated. This book is about the men and women who established the science that shook the foundations of classical physics, removed determinism from measurement, and created alternative worlds of reality. The book introduces fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics, roughly in the order they were discovered, as a launching point for describing the scientist and the work that brought forth the concepts.
First multi-year cumulation covers six years: 1965-70.

An essential resource for any library where research on aging is conducted--a guide to important and unique holdings in the field.
Contains material that should prove helpful to sci-tech librarians in furthering their understanding and appreciation of science as a broadly-based and creative experience - and how to use these titles to share this understanding with students and other readers.
This book, first published in 1987, brings together from a variety of sources analysis on the major issues involved in the collection of scientific journals. Working from the premise that scientists tend to know much more about their subject than about their journals, it examines the rationale for journal choices, journals and tenure, journals and budgeting, and the elements of a good journal. It shows librarians how to penetrate the internal structure of some imposing technical literatures in a way that can help them make responsible collection management decisions that even their science clientele will respect.
