Introduction to Physics in Modern Medicine

From x-rays to lasers to magnetic resonance imaging, developments in basic physics research have been transformed into medical technologies for imaging, surgery and therapy at an ever accelerating pace. Physics has joined with genetics and molecular biology to define much of what is modern in modern medicine. Covering a wide range of applications,

Hertha Sponer: a Woman’S Life as a Physicist in the 20Th Century ''So You Won't Forget Me''

Just three women qualified for a professorship in physics in Germany before the Second World War. All three began their careers with great promise; all three had to leave Hitlers Germany, among them Hertha Sponer. An ambitious girl, she had to struggle to achieve the education she craved, culminating in a Ph.D. at the University of Gttingen. There followed an apprenticeship in Berlin, and work under the aegis of James Franck, around the time he received the Nobel Prize. Their academic world was shattered by the Nazis. Sponer reluctantly embarked on a new life in North Carolina. She succeeded as Professor of Physics at Duke University. She became a recognized authority on the electronic spectra of aromatic molecules (benzene and derivatives). Late in life, she became the second wife of James Franck.

Physics

This Physics textbook presents the basic concepts of physics that students need to know for later courses and future careers. This text helps students learn that physics is a tool for understanding the real world, and to teach transferable problem-solving skills, that students can use throughout their entire lives. Some of the most important enhancements in this edition include: new/updated MCAT exam coverage added and moved online, review and synthesis problems added, new biomedical applications, lists of biomedical applications at the beginning of each chapter, new ranking tasks, checkpoints, and collaborative problems. Connections have also been enhanced to help students see the bigger pi...

"Physics" 2nd edition is an alternate version of the "College Physics" 3rd edition text by Giambattista/Richardson/Richardson. The key difference is that "Physics" covers kinematics and forces in the more traditional organization of beginning with Kinematics and proceeding to forces. ("College Physics" takes an integrated approach to forces and kinematics, introducing forces and interweaving kinematics.).
