In Bibliophiles and Bibliothieves, Opritsa Popa has documented what might justifiably be described as the most celebrated case of looting of two German cultural treasures by a member of the U.S. Army at the end of World War II and their subsequent odyssey across both an ocean and a continent: the pilfering from a cellar in Bad Wildungen of the ninth-century Liber Sapientiae, containing the two leaves of the oldest extant German heroic poem, the Old High German Hildebrandslied, along with the fourteenth-century illuminated Willehalm codex, both of which had been removed from the State Library in Kassel for protection from bombing raids.

Camp SharpeÕs "Psycho Boys": From Gettysburg to Germany
Drawing on company histories, memoirs, and interviews, Camp Sharpe's "Psycho Boys" traces the history of the men of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Mobile Radio Broadcasting Companies during World War II. The story begins with the establishment of a secret camp in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, for specialized training in psychological warfare. There they were taught the various skills that would be necessary in the European campaign from D-Day onward: prisoner and civilian interrogation, broadcasting, loudspeaker appeals, leaflet and newspaper production, and technical support. These men were divided into four Mobile Radio Broadcasting (MRB) companies. They would, first, be employed in shortening the European war by lowering the morale of the enemy, then in easing the transition of Germany from a Nazi stronghold to an American-controlled democracy. Camp Sharpe's "Psycho Boys" is enriched with new material - including photographs - acquired through personal interviews and correspondence with nine veterans of the camp. 37 photos, footnotes, index. Stylistics, Stylometry and Sentiment Analysis in German Studies
Can literature be investigated through quantitative methods? Can style, empathy, and prestige be measured? This study attempts to respond to these questions by providing results from a selection of case studies taken from German literature of the 19th through the 21st century, including Goethe’s “late style”, Felix Salten, and the output of contemporary writers such as Florian Meimberg’s “twitterature” and Daniel Glattauer’s e-mail novel. Altogether, this study shows how the interplay among literary theory, stylometry, stylistics, sentiment analysis, empirical studies, and archival research can offer new answers to old questions regarding German literature and provide tools to formulate new questions and novel approaches to research.
