Reviews on Selected Topics of Telomere Biology

Telomeres, located at the ends of linear chromosomes, are essential for genome stability and integrity. Advances in telomere researches have linked telomere dysfunction with cellular aging and a number of age-related human diseases. Recent studies further expanded our knowledge of telomere functions - telomeres are shown to be important for microbial pathogen virulence and telomere proteins have important non-telomeric cellular functions. This book includes current opinions on selected aspects of telomere research and their implication, in hope to help us focus better on future studies and enhance our research progress.

Lung Adenocarcinoma: From Genomics to Immunotherapy

Lung cancer is the second most common type of cancer and is the leading cause of cancer death globally. In 2018, almost 2.1 million new cases were diagnosed, accounting for ~12% of the cancer burden worldwide. The malignant stage of lung tumor is known as lung adenocarcinoma, which is most common and is diagnosed in both smokers and non-smokers.There are two main types of lung cancer, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Genomic studies have indicated that more than 80% of lung malignancies are classified as NSCLC, of which adenocarcinoma is a predominant subtype. Although significant progress has been made in treating tumor with targetable driver mutations, ...

First published in 1593, this encyclopedia of China's ancient civilization consists of information ranging from medicine, mineralogy, botany, zoology and natural science. The collaboration on this project took Foreign Language Press a number of years, in particular translating difficult sections such as history, culture and science, which have never been translated into any language before. In addition in trying to stay true to the original text, this volume also includes notes with modern scientific research in mind.

Using Genomics, Metagenomics and Other "Omics" to Assess Valuable Microbial Ecosystem Services and Novel Biotechnological Applications

Most ecosystem services and goods human populations use and consume are provided by microbial populations and communities. Indeed, numerous provisioning services (e.g. food and enzymes for industrial processes), regulating services (e.g. water quality, contamination alleviation and biological processes such as plant-microbial symbioses), and supporting services (e.g. nutrient cycling, agricultural production and biodiversity) are mediated by microbes. The fast development of metagenomics and other meta-omics technologies is expanding our understanding of microbial diversity, ecology, evolution and functioning. This enhanced knowledge directly translates into the emergence of new applications...
