The Forgotten Artist William "Bill" Alexander

Well, you really don't know the painter William "Bill" Alexander? His biography reads like a novel and is for this book extensively probably researched for the first time! He was a charming "fox" who survived two world wars and lived years in North America with his VW bus as a traveling artist. He wanted to do something good for people. His life was a big adventure, his end was dramatic. Born in Berlin 1915 and later emigrated to North America, he became famous as a TV painter with own television show. Only 30 minutes Alexander needed for a complete oil painting, and he also taught his students. Thanks to the brillant "Alexander painting technique" that he developed himself, anyone can paint like this. And his method is still used and taught by teachers around the globe today. But the worldwide fame for this absolutely ingenious technique went to another: His student Bob Ross. Urgently overdue to remember this warmhearted artist. Let's accompany William "Bill" Alexander on his exciting journey.

Eerie Publications' horror magazines brought blood and bad taste to America's newsstands from 1965 through 1975. Ultra-gory covers and bottom-of-the-barrel production values lent an air of danger to every issue, daring you to look at (and purchase) them. The Weird of World of Eerie Publications introduces the reader to Myron Fass, the gun-toting megalomaniac publisher who, with tyranny and glee, made a career of fishing pocketbook change from young readers with the most insidious sort of exploitation. You'll also meet Carl Burgos, who, as editor of Eerie Publications, ground his axe against the entire comics industry. Slumming comic art greats and unknown hacks were both employed by Eerie to plagiarize the more inspired work of pre-Code comic art of the 1950s. Somehow these lowbrow abominations influenced a generation of artists who proudly blame career choices (and mental problems) on Eerie Publications. One of them, Stephen R. Bissette (Swamp Thing, Taboo, Tyrant), provides the introduction for this volume. Here's the sordid background behind this mysterious comics publisher, featuring astonishingly red reproductions of many covers and the most spectacularly creepy art.

This book provides a long-needed alternative to the reliance upon a "higher power" that is so much a part of traditional twelve-step addictions recovery programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous. In simple and practical language, Alexander, himself a recovering alcoholic, introduces a new, nonreligious approach to addiction recovery that he calls "Ordinary Recovery", which draws upon the wisdom of mindfulness practice.

New York Times bestselling author William Alexander takes readers on a surprisingly twisty journey through the history of the beloved tomato in this fascinating and erudite microhistory. The tomato gets no respect. Never has. Stored in the dustbin of history for centuries, accused of being vile and poisonous, appropriated as wartime propaganda, subjected to being picked hard-green and gassed, even used as a projectile, the poor tomato is the Rodney Dangerfield of foods. Yet, the tomato is the most popular vegetable in America (and, in fact, the world). It holds a place in America's soul like no other vegetable, and few other foods. Each summer, tomato festivals crop up across the country; Jo...

Pivot Table Data Crunching
