Medical Neuropsychology

Neuropsychologists have an important role in potentiating the psychosocial adjustment and quality of life of patients through effective diagnosis and rehabilitation of cognitive and psychomotor deficits caused by acute and chronic disease. Thoroughly updated and expanded, this second edition of the highly acclaimed Medical Neuropsychology contains a complete review of the rapidly developing literature pertaining to the association between cognition and medical diseases. As a compendium of the empirical literature documenting the neuropsychological sequelae of organ and system pathology, this volume will be of interest of all practitioners interested in the integration of neuropsychology into the mainstream of health service delivery.

Every Thing Counts

Every Thing Counts is the history of a public health effort that grew organically from the needs of an HIV community in the Bronx, drawing on voluminous energy, passionate commitment, and social activism. It is a firsthand description of the relationship between poverty and disease, and the history of a loving, dedicated collaboration among people of diverse backgrounds who worked together throughout the twenty-five years of the program. The book calls on research participants’ contributions, case records, clinicians’ perspectives, and searing memories of illness, death, and resilience. It is an illuminating treatise on community activism in a time of crisis.

Medical Neuropsychology

Great strides have been made in the past several decades in clarifying brain behavior relationships. Most of the research has focused on the direct effects of a brain injury on behavioral functioning. Only recently has attention been given to documenting the mechanisms by which the disruption of various organs and systems compromise cerebral integrity and ultimately how such disruption affects cognition and behavior. It is this relatively new topic of inquiry, medical neuropsychology, that comprises the subject of this book. As will be noted, the chapters are organized on a system-by-system basis. Each of the organ systems contributes in a unique and specialized fashion to maintaining the in...

This is a breakthrough book written on an important subject to children, parents, and grandparents. The subject is Dementia, or what is commonly referred to as memory loss. To the best of my knowledge, no other book on this subject has been written specifically for children ages 9 to 12. However, Hudson’s and Charlotte’s endearing adventure is for all readers; children, parents and grandparents. Your children will relate to the adventures of these two young girls, and as they learn about memory loss, so too will you and your children. As people live longer, the population winding up with Dementia is rapidly growing. Parents find themselves ill-equipped to talk to their children about this subject. They themselves know little, and without basic mental health knowledge, parents are unable to discuss this issue with their children. If you have a parent that is fine today, they could start the long, slow, goodbye tomorrow. I believe this book is a must read for all ages, and parents in particular should read it and discuss it with their children. Because this is such an important issue, I am going to donate 10% of my royalties to the Alzheimer Foundation.

The three volumes on "The Melanotropic Peptides" are the outcome of a conference of the same name that was held in Tucson, Arizona, from October 11-12, 1986. Volume II disdcusses the diverse putative physiologial roles of MSH and MCH. A concluding chapter of this volume provides a discussion of the possible evolutionary relationships between MSH and MCH in the control of color change.
