Voice Assistants such as Amazon's Alexa populate private homes as well as smartphones, TVs and cars. While suggesting easy living with smart devices, these assistants are criticized as the next step of corporate and state surveillance of the private home, or as harbingers of new and simplified linguistic practices. The contributors to this volume focus on the transformation and persistence of everyday linguistic, media and data practices under platformized conditions and new interfaces. Of Trees and Clouds
Software-based technologies deeply saturate our everyday lives. Consequently, they also influence the ways we see and mediate the world. In fact, the ease and flexibility software provides implies a shift in control. Digital media mediates itself, turning software into a co-author. Yet, the potentials of such a co-authorship are still largely constrained by conventions stemming from the need to run strips of celluloid through a projector. This book demonstrates how software can retrain filmmakers' visions of the world – from branching trees to the shifting contours of clouds. It does so by ethnographically studying one particular technology, the Korsakow System. The result is a methodology for interrogating established software regimes; a task increasingly in need of anthropological attention.

Takt und Taktlosigkeit

Mit dem Takt gehen Fragen nach dem Maß, der Angemessenheit oder dem Stil eines bestimmten Verhaltens oder einer Interaktion einher. Im Sozialen ist der unscheinbare Takt ein äußerst wirksames Instrument, um den anderen - aber auch sich selbst - zu schonen. Die Beiträge in diesem Band stellen den Takt als eminent bedeutsames Medium der pädagogischen und therapeutischen, aber auch der ethnographischen Arbeit vor und verdeutlichen, dass ohne Takt die informellen Ordnungen des Guten und Richtigen nicht mehr aufrechterhalten werden können.
"Auf unsicherem Terrain"
In diesem Buch wird die Ethnographie unter unterschiedlichen Fragestellungen im Kontext der Erziehungswissenschaft erörtert. Ausgangspunkt ist die Beobachtung, dass sich ethnographische Forschung im Kontext des Bildungs- und Sozialwesens in mehrfacher Hinsicht "auf unsicherem Terrain" bewegt: Zum einen beinhaltet ethnographische Forschung generell ein produktives Verunsicherungspotential beim Eintritt in ein neues Feld. Zum anderen kann Ethnographie im Kontext des Bildungs- und Sozialwesens noch nicht auf breite Feldforschungserfahrungen hinweisen. Der Band versteht sich als Beitrag zur Markierung und Diskussion methodischer Erfahrungen und Probleme der Ethnographie in der Pädagogik mit Kindern und Jugendlichen und als Hilfestellung bei der Konzeptualisierung und Realisierung ethnographischer Projekte.
