Laura Lojo is Associate Professor of English literature and language at the University of Santiago de Compostela and has a Ph.D. in VirginiaWoolf's writing. Lojo is the author of Introduction to Virginia Woolf's Short Fiction (2003), and is co-editor of Writing Bonds: Irish and Galician Contemporary Women Poets (2009). She has also published book chapters and articles in literary journals on various topics, such as the reception of British modernism in Spanish-speaking countries, Irish women's poetry, women's studies, and comparative literature. --
This volume contends that young individuals across Europe relate to their country’s history in complex and often ambivalent ways. It pays attention to how both formal education and broader culture communicate ideas about the past, and how young people respond to these ideas. The studies collected in this volume show that such ideas about the past are central to the formation of the group identities of nations, social movements, or religious groups. Young people express received historical narratives in new, potentially subversive, ways. As young people tend to be more mobile and ready to interrogate their own roots than later generations, they selectively privilege certain aspects of their identities and their identification with their family or nation while neglecting others. This collection aims to correct the popular misperception that young people are indifferent towards history and prove instead that historical narratives are constitutive to their individual identities and their sense of belonging to something broader than themselves.

In March 2015, the eleventh edition of The Child and the Book Conference was organized at the University of Aveiro in Portugal. This book celebrates the bicentenary of Schleiermacher’s famous Berlin conference "On the Different Methods of Translating" (1813). It is the product of an international Call for Papers that welcomed scholars from many international universities, inviting them to discuss and illuminate the theoretical and practical reception of a text that is not only arguably canonical for the history and theory of translation, but which has moreover never ceased to be present both in theoretical and applied Translation Studies and remains a mandatory part of translator training. A further reason for initiating this project was the fact that the German philosopher and theologian Friedrich Schleiermacher, though often cited in Translation Studies up to the present day, was never studied in terms of his real impact on different domains of translation, literature and culture.

Este livro decorre das duas primeiras edições do Ciclo de Conferências “Do manuscrito ao livro impresso”, realizadas no Departamento de Línguas e Culturas da Universidade de Aveiro (2015/16 e 2016/17), no âmbito da Licenciatura em Línguas e Estudos Editoriais e do Mestrado em Estudos Editoriais, com o propósito de estimular a investigação e a divulgação científica na área da História do Livro e da Edição. Pretendeu-se promover uma reflexão crítica alargada sobre o nascimento e a evolução da escrita e da edição de textos ao longo dos tempos, destacando os principais suportes e técnicas, desde o rolo de papiro ao códice de pergaminho, desde o livro em papel ao livro digital. Os estudos do presente volume versam sobre temas diversos da História do Livro e da Edição, desde a antiguidade à atualidade. Constituem o culminar de um projeto a que se pretende dar continuidade, renovando-se assim o nosso intento de propagação das Artes do Livro.

As its predecessor for East-Central Europe, this two-volume history distances itself from traditional histories built around periods and movements, and explores, from a comparative viewpoint, a space considered to be a powerful symbol of inter-literary relations.
