The Memory of Guilt Revisited
The collapse of the communist states is regarded as the starting point of the new Europe. With this turning point, historical narratives have had to be rewritten in the post-socialist countries. Focusing on the little known case of Slovenia, this issue of zeitgeschichte offers a comprehensive survey of the transformations affecting collective memory and the writing of history in one post-communist country. The essays analyze the ways in which Slovenian society has grappled with traumatic historical events and thus give insight into the ongoing struggle over the interpretation of Slovenia's past. Given the proliferating illiberal tendencies in the political culture of numerous European countries, the strategies of historical revisionism described in this issue are likely to be of considerable interest not only to scholars interested specifically in the case of Slovenia.

Historični seminar 13 prinaša izbor devetih razprav, ki jih je prispevalo deset slovenskih, avstrijskih, hrvaških in nemških strokovnjakov. V interdisciplinarnem prepletu humanističnih in družboslovnih ved izstopajo različni pogledi na zgodovino, v motrenje tega, kar je bilo, s pogledi, usmerjenimi tudi v geografijo, komparativistiko, etnomuzikologijo, kulturno antropologijo. A nikakor ne brez kritične distance, ki je v pričujoči monografiji na različne načine še posebej poudarjena, saj številni članki preizprašujejo predpostavke do sedaj že opravljenih raziskav in nujno subjektivna izhodišča, ki posameznike vodijo pri njihovih ugotovitvah (in jih seveda najdemo povsod, le da so v humanističnih vedah morda še bolj na očeh). Na ta način Historični seminar 13 lahko pomembno prispeva h kritični misli o znanosti ter o prihodnjih nalogah humanistike in družboslovja, obenem pa marsikateri vsebini dodaja tudi vse bolj aktualno etično noto. Monografija, ki jo bo v roke z veseljem vzel marsikateri bralec, je prosto dostopna tudi na spletu.

Kulturen der Differenz – Transformationsprozesse in Zentraleuropa nach 1989
Der Systemwechsel 1989 markiert eine Zäsur: Der Zerfall der kommunistischen Staatenwelt löst eine historisch beispiellose ökonomische, kulturelle und politische Transformation aus, die auch das Selbstverständnis der »westeuropäischen« Staaten verändert.Dies zeigt sich besonders in Zentraleuropa: Der Blick auf diese Region ermöglicht die Überwindung der weiterhin wirksamen Ost-West-Dichotomien und die Frage nach den gesamteuropäischen Konsequenzen von Veränderungsprozessen.Diese Prozesse werden aus geistes-, kultur- und sozialwissenschaftlicher Perspektive analysiert. Die Beiträge thematisieren Fragen des sozialen Lebens ebenso wie kollektive Bilder und Vorstellungen, mediale Repräsentationen und literarische Narrative, die für das Selbstverständnis von (zentral-)europäischen Gesellschaften am Beginn des 21.
