"The Copenhagen Bohun Manuscripts: Women, Representation and Reception in Fourteenth-Century England" provides a detailed analysis of the components of two exquisitely illuminated fourteenth-century English manuscripts, the Hours of the Virgin (Copenhagen, Royal Library, MS Thott 547, 4 ) and the Lives of the Virgin Mary, St. Margaret and Mary Magdalene (Copenhagen, Royal Library, MS Thott 517, 4 ), executed for the Bohun family. Based on pictorial as well as documentary evidence and in light of the dynastic and devotional concerns of the family matriarch, the author draws new conclusions about the manuscripts patronage, provenance, imagery, and texts.
