The Healing Virtues
Explores the intersection of psychotherapy and virtue ethics with an emphasis on the patient's work in a healing project. This common ground between the therapeutic process and the cultivation of virtues can inform the efforts of both therapist and patient. The ethics of psychotherapy revolve partly around what a therapist should or should not do as well as the sort of person that a therapist should be: e.g., empathic, prudent, compassionate, respectful, and trustworthy. The ethics of a therapeutic dialogue can also revolve around the sort of person a patient should be. This work pforwardward an argument for patient virtues that are crucially relevant to psychotherapy, e.g., honesty, perseverance, and hopefulness. The author's central idea is that treatment may need to build virtues while it ameliorates problems. As a virtue epistemic and virtue ethical endeavor, a psychotherapeutic healing project can both challenge a patient's character and result in its further development.

Objects
What sorts of material objects are there? Many philosophers opt for surprising answers to this question that seem deeply at odds with how we ordinarily think about the material world. Some embrace radically eliminative views, on which there are far fewer objects than we ordinarily take there to be, while others go in for radically permissive views on which there are legions of extraordinary objects that somehow escape our notice, despite being highly visible and right before our eyes. In this book, Daniel Z. Korman defends our ordinary, intuitive judgments about which objects there are. The book responds to a wide variety of arguments that have driven people away from the intuitive view: arbitrariness arguments, debunking arguments, overdetermination arguments, arguments from vagueness and material constitution, and the problem of the many. It also criticizes attempts to show that permissive and eliminative views are, despite appearances, entirely compatible with our ordinary beliefs and intuitions.

This book presents and engages the world-building capacity of legal theory through cultural legal studies of science and speculative fictions. In these studies, the contributors take seriously the legal world building of science and speculative fiction to reveal, animate and critique legal wisdom: juris-prudence. Following a common approach in cultural legal studies, the contributors engage directly, and in detail, with specific cultural ‘texts’, novels, television, films and video games in order to explore a range of possible legal futures.
