Anticipating and Preparing for Emerging Skills and Jobs
This open access book analyzes the main drivers that are influencing the dramatic evolution of work in Asia and the Pacific and identifies the implications for education and training in the region. It also assesses how education and training philosophies, curricula, and pedagogy can be reshaped to produce workers with the skills required to meet the emerging demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Harnessing the Fourth Industrial Revolution through Skills Development in High-Growth Industries in Central and West Asia—Uzbekistan
Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies have brought about unprecedented changes to labor markets, and the coronavirus disease further hastened digital transformations. While the application of 4IR technologies spell opportunities for productivity growth and income gains, they also create challenges, including job losses. Investing in skills for 4IR and incorporating 4IR technologies in the delivery of training can smoothen the transition to 4IR workplaces. To provide insights on the opportunities of 4IR, studies were undertaken in three countries—Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan. This report, focusing on Uzbekistan, presents evidence from surveys of employers and training institutions, as well as an analysis of job portals for the agro-processing and transportation and storage sectors. It lays out policy directions and actions to harness the benefits of 4IR for growth, employment, and inclusive development.

Technical and Vocational Teacher Education and Training in International and Development Co-Operation
This book deals with teacher training for vocational education and training. In individual chapters next to the positions of relevant international organizations, donors and development banks, it also covers selected countries in their ways of shaping of Technical Vocational Education and Training and teacher training. The structure of the book aims at two objectives: To outline positions of important stakeholders of the international Technical Vocational Education and Training policies and international cooperation in TVET teacher training. To discuss the current status of Technical Vocational Education and Training and teacher training in selected countries, from developing countries, countries with emerging economies to industrialized countries. The Caribbean Social Justice Agenda
This publication is dedicated to the issues related to Social Justice in the Caribbean, and seeks to increase dialogue among practitioners, unions, labour activists, academics, policy-makers and other individuals from across the social sciences and humanities. It is purposely multi-disciplinary in orientation, intending to cover issues related to work, workers, labour, and related topics, as well as social, organizational and institutional aspects of work and industrial relations. It aims to set the tone for discourse on a wide range of issues related to the future of work and sustainable Caribbean development, Social Justice, industrial relations, governance systems, social protection, social dialogue, cooperatives and community empowerment, the future of education, migration and security, among others, nationally, and regionally. The publication will represent contemporary scholarly contributions from researchers presenting either original or innovative research that contribute to the theory, practice and public policy dimensions of work, migration, labour, industrial relations, and related issues.
Strengthening Disability-Inclusive Development
ADB’s Strategy 2030’s first operational priority focuses on addressing remaining poverty and reducing inequalities through a three-pronged strategy: investing in human capital and social protection, facilitating access to good-quality jobs, and reducing inequality of opportunity through such means as removing barriers to access to services and infrastructure, especially for the poor and vulnerable. The Strategy commits ADB to increasing its emphasis on social inclusion and human development to address the non-income dimensions of poverty. This road map provides a framework to support disability-inclusive development, focusing first on short- and medium-term actions and building an inclusive organizational culture that can accelerate and strengthen the implementation of Strategy 2030 goals and priority areas.
