For over two decades visual artist and historian Brenton Hamilton has created a sustained body of work, mostly concentrated within the historic processes employing nineteenth century photography techniques, no longer commercially available. Hamilton has produced a unique body of work using methodologies like gum bichromated forms, platinum, and collodion ambrotypes on black glass, French variants of paper calotypy and of course the embellished cyanotype. Influenced by the Surrealist motifs; coaxing dream like, chance collisions of fragments from art history, Hamilton shapes a new landscape in his photographs. The present symbolism of the dark night sky and the freedom to look outside himself towards unfettered ideas and musings, learning to make a new place with paper and metal salts and light allowing him to rest and wonder. He combines human anatomy, astronomy and botanical imagery to create intriguing and provocative arrangements. His work references to ancient Greece and Rome, as well as 15th and 16th century Dutch and Italian paintings. Hamilton uses symbols and visual elements from the history of art to create a thoroughly contemporary vision.

Alternative Process Photography for the Contemporary Photographer

A comprehensive textbook, Alternative Process Photography for the Contemporary Photographer explores the ways in which the materiality and science of photography and aesthetic concepts of contemporary photography can work together in an accessible way. It explains not only the historical context behind these processes but draws on examples from contemporary practitioners to show how the processes can be used within the field of contemporary photography. Author Morgan Post exemplifies the creative ways in which a contemporary photographer can engage with alternative process photography as a beginner and includes contributions from Takashi Arai, Alida Rodrigues, Binh Danh, Diana H. Bloomfield and many others from around the world. The textbook is accompanied by a companion website offering accessible step-by-step video instructions that demonstrate the processes explored. Bridging analogue and digital media, the textbook is ideal for students of photography and amateur photographers with an interest in alternative methods to photography.

Remote Sensing Digital Image Analysis

Possibly the greatest change confronting the practitioner and student of remote sensing in the period since the first edition of this text appeared in 1986 has been the enormous improvement in accessibility to image processing technology. Falling hardware and software costs, combined with an increase in functionality through the development of extremely versatile user interfaces, has meant that even the user unskilled in computing now has immediate and ready access to powerful and flexible means for digital image analysis and enhancement. An understanding, at algorithmic level, of the various methods for image processing has become therefore even more important in the past few years to ensur...
