The New American Crime Film
The American crime film has recently enjoyed a surge in popularity and proliferation, making it the most pervasive genre in contemporary cinema. Though it now tackles current issues, it continues to reference the classic narratives and archetypes established in the great crime pictures of past decades. The titles explored in this critical survey feature a variety of themes and show that the crime film genre has fused with other genres to create fascinating hybrids. Two Hundred Years with the Siders
The Siders had their beginnings in Lancaster Pennsylvania 200 years ago. A young German man by the name of Jacob Seider married a young Swiss woman by the name of Maria Wenger. The Sider name was adopted from the German name of Seider in the early 1800s in Canada. George Sider was born ca 1730 in Germany and married Anna Margaret Reinhardt in 1754. They had three sons and four daughters. He died ca 1802 in Dauphin county Pennsylvania.
Training Nonhuman Primates Using Positive Reinforcement Techniques
This special issue illustrates benefits to animals from positive reinforcement training (PRT) and--depending on the setting--to scientists, animal care staff, veterinarians, and in the case of the zoo, the visiting public. One important theme throughout is that training is a joint venture between human and nonhuman primate and can lead to a closer, richer relationship between the two. In summary, the editors hope this issue encourages further and wider application of PRT to primate management, care, and use, as well as aid those working with animals in applying PRT safely and effectively.
