Luigi Capuana: Experimental Fiction and Cultural Mediation in Post-Risorgimento Italy. The studies in this collection revisit established critical positions which confine Luigi Capuana’s work within the orbits of Naturalism and Positivism. A variety of theoretical readings in the volume investigate how the author’s experimentalism and eclectic interests respond to positivist ideology, the limitations of scientific practices, and the conflicts and anxieties of the fin de siècle which arise from a change in intellectual attitudes towards new ways of interpreting reality. The volume’s three sections focus on cultural mediation and the construction of socio-literary identities, gender representation and metaliterature, and on the author’s experimentation with the natural, supernatural and fantastic. Each section illustrates how the search for the new and experimentalism constitute driving forces in the author’s artistic investigation and production, making his work an important source for a new reading of the fin de siècle’s epistemological revision.

La trama dell'allegoria
Guardando all’allegoria come modo espressivo culturalmente determinato, il volume indaga l’istanza allegorica presente nelle ‘scritture di ricerca’ del secondo ’900. Coniugando la discussione critico-teorica sull’allegoria moderna e sul dibattito italiano degli anni ’80 a puntuali analisi testuali, lo studio attraversa la produzione in prosa di autori di area sperimentale e neoavanguardistica, tra cui Manganelli, Morselli, Volponi, Malerba, Arbasino, Sanguineti e Di Marco. Nelle opere esaminate la tensione allegorica si esplica non solo nel piano tematico, ma si traduce nel modo di formare, orientando le scelte diegetiche, le strutture, i rapporti con generi e modelli della tradizione. Si dispiega, così, quella tramadisegnata dall’allegoria, principio strutturante dell’opera e garante del suo rapporto con il piano della storia – di cui la letteratura, con deformato realismo, esibisce conflitti e tensioni.
L’URSS dentro e fuori
A partire dagli anni Venti del Novecento, l’Unione Sovietica diventa meta privilegiata degli scrittori italiani, viaggiatori che, per l’occasione, si fanno carico di interpretare e presentare il nuovo mondo sovietico al lettore italiano inviando articoli a giornali e riviste, la maggior parte dei quali saranno poi pubblicati come monografie. Il presente studio si propone di indagare le ragioni che spinsero tanti intellettuali a visitare la Russia e i territori sovietici dopo l’Ottobre. Attraverso i riferimenti alle ideologie storiche e politiche che possono aver influenzato le interpretazioni degli scrittori, la ricostruzione delle condizioni di viaggio e gli approcci individuali alla vita sovietica, lo studio mette a fuoco il punto di vista degli intellettuali italiani sull’URSS e il particolare valore che i reportage ebbero nella costruzione dell’immagine del mondo sovietico nella realtà italiana.

A poco più di settecento anni dalla morte del grande poeta italiano, questo libro intende costituire un contributo alla conoscenza del ruolo che il retaggio letterario, culturale e linguistico dell’opera di Dante ha avuto nello sviluppo linguistico, nella formazione della coscienza nazionale dei popoli slavi, nelle loro letterature e nell'elaborazione del loro canone letterario, con particolare attenzione al periodo successivo al 1991. Negli ultimi trent’anni, infatti, nel variegato panorama dei paesi slavi sono avvenuti molti cambiamenti politici, sociali, culturali e linguistici. Sono sorte nuove entità politiche, nuovi stati, con le rispettive lingue nazionali e con la necessità di rivedere o elaborare i rispettivi canoni letterari. Il volume contiene saggi sulla ricezione di Dante in Bielorussia, Bulgaria, Cechia, Croazia, Macedonia, Polonia, Russia, Serbia, Slovacchia e Ucraina.
