Women's Health Problems

Women’s Health Problems - A Global Perspective demonstrates the outcome of a considerable evolutionary search for the improved human condition. This edited volume thoroughly examines fundamental aspects of women`s health focusing on environmental, social, and age factors. Esteemed contributors from various disciplines present critical analyses and evidence-based insights on topics such as reproductive and sexual health, menstruation, women’s and maternal diseases, healthcare access, gender-based violence, and systemic inequalities. The holistic approach postulates the involvement of the reproductive system in the total scenario of general health. Several reproductive disorders or gestational pathologies were known as a part of the programming of short- and long-term consequences. This work aims to inform and inspire readers, offering a vital resource for anyone committed to understanding and improving women’s health on a global scale. The chapters present knowledge on the programs providing general and reproductive health and contributing to longevity. Explore the challenges, triumphs, and the ongoing journey toward equitable health for women everywhere.

On the Cusp of the Silent Wave of the Long COVID Pandemic: Why, what and how should we tackle this emerging syndrome in the clinic and population?

Most of the world is happily witnessing a decline in the burden of COVID-19 disease after the global efforts to develop, produce, and deploy anti-SARS-CoV2 vaccines to massive country-level vaccination campaigns. At the same time, this decline is coming at the cost of a silent public crisis due to the rise in the number of people suffering from the post-COVID-19 syndrome (commonly known as long COVID). These people experience a wide set of symptoms, such as persistent fatigue, post-exertional malaise after minimal physical or mental effort, and unrefreshing sleep, representing a substantial healthcare burden worldwide. Some of these people also comply with the current criteria for the diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), a complex disease often stigmatized by society and neglected by research funders over the years.

Hospitalization and Parkinson’s Disease: Safety, Quality and Outcomes

Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that can result in motor and non-motor symptoms, following motor and non-motor basal ganglia circuitry degeneration. Motor features include rigidity and bradykinesia, as well as gait and balance difficulties, patients may also develop tremors. Pharmacological treatment is focused around replacing dopamine, and carbidopa/levodopa is the most used medication. In more advanced PD stages, motor symptoms become more challenging to manage.

Panic Buying and Environmental Disasters

Panic buying is a common response during crises; however, to date it has been a significantly under-researched area. Recent evidence suggests that an environmental stimulus, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, war, earthquakes, flooding, public health emergencies (SARS, MARS) can trigger this phenomenon. As an environmental crisis takes its toll, the understanding of panic buying becomes overlooked. Nevertheless, panic buying causes series of events separate from these primary events. Understanding the management of emergencies and disasters should be an integral part of dealing with panic buying since every major environmental crisis has the potential to initiate panic buying behaviour in the general public. This book will analyse episodes of panic buying and major environmental crisis focusing on specific prevention strategies. This book is the first of its kind of approach to join up the management of panic buying during a public health emergency.
