Mythologizing Black Women
In this book Brittany C. Slatton uses innovative internet research methods to reveal contemporary prejudices about relationship partners. In doing so she thoroughly refutes the popular ideology of a post-racial America. Slatton examines the 'deep frame' of white men found in opinions and emotional reactions to black women and their body types, personalities, behaviours, and styles of speech. Their internet responses to questionnaires shows how they treat as common sense radicalised, gendered, and classed versions of black women. Mythologizing Black Women argues that the internet acts as a backstage setting, allowing white men to anonymously express raw feelings about race and sexuality without the fear of reprimand.
Anti-Racist Teaching
"Antiracist Teaching" is about awakening students to their own humanity. In order to teach about this awakening one must be in the process of awakening oneself. The author shares personal anecdotes to illustrate the kinds of changes he experienced as a result of his antiracist teaching. His book explores the questions, Why is teaching about racism and white privilege to white students so difficult? and What can educators do to become more effective antiracist teachers for all of their students? Amico examines the cognitive and emotive obstacles that students experience in the classroom and argues that understanding these difficulties can lead to their resolution. He considers a variety of different approaches to antiracist teaching and endorses a dialogic approach. Dialogue is the centerpiece of students classroom experiences; students engage in dialogue at nearly every class meeting. The dialogic approach is effective in a variety of different learning settings from K 12 classrooms, trainings, retreats, workshops, and community organizations to the college classroom. Masculinities, Gender and International Relations

Latinos Facing Racism
Feagin and Cobas provide the first in-depth examination of the everyday racism faced by middle-class Latinos. Based on a national survey, we learn how a diverse group of talented Latinos Mexican Americans, Puerto Rican Americans, Cuban Americans, and others respond to and cope with the commonplace white racial framing and discriminatory practices. Drawing on extensive interviewing, the authors address the recurring discrimination of ordinary whites directed against Spanish speakers and individuals with presumed Latino phenotypes. These incidents occur in everyday encounters, such as when male and female Latinos travel or shop. The book also chronicles the mistreatment that Latinos face from immigration officials when they cross US borders and from the police when they are racially profiled outside Latino areas.
