Recent Advances in Glucocorticoid Receptor Action

The long-term use of glucocorticoids is associated with several deleterious effects. Attempts to separate the beneficial from the adverse effects of these compounds have met with varying degrees of difficulty. The discovery of distinct modes of action of the glucocorticoid receptor, the protein that mediates glucocorticoid action has opened up many possibilities for improving glucocorticoid therapy. This book provides an in-depth overview of the molecular actions of the glucocorticoid receptor and discusses the chances of an imminent identification of selective glucocorticoid agonists. Such componds should fulfill all the criteria of a glucocorticoid but should lack the sideeffects so far linked with classical glucocorticoids.

This innovative book looks at popular perceptions of sexual violence and asks such key questions as: How is rape' defined? Who is responsible for sexual assault? How can rape be prevented? The author critically examines feminist and psychological theory and research on attitudes towards rape. Drawing on case studies, survey research, experiments, fieldwork and action-oriented research from Europe, North America and Asia, Ward combines qualitative and quantitative approaches to understanding sexual violence. She highlights the negative consequences for rape victims of biased and prejudicial perceptions of sexual violence, including those of legal, medical and helping professionals, and discusses the impact of these attitudes on victims' self-perceptions. The book concludes by suggesting strategies for changing ideas about sexual assault, including, for example, action-oriented research which is designed to raise consciousness and improve services for victims.

Bijels

Bicontinuous interfacially jammed emulsion gels, now commonly termed 'bijels', are a class of soft materials, in which interpenetrating, continuous domains of two immiscible fluids are maintained in a rigid arrangement by a jammed layer of colloidal particles at their interface. Such gels have unusual material properties that promise exciting applications across diverse fields from energy materials and catalysis, to food science. This is the first book on the subject and provides the reader with a fundamental introduction. Edited by a recognised authority on bijels, the reader will learn about the bijel and its formation. Bringing together current understanding, this book aims to bring the potential application of bijels to diverse materials challenges closer to fruition. This is a must-have resource for anyone working in soft matter and applied fields.

Neutrosophic Hypersoft Matrices with Application to Solve Multiattributive Decision-Making Problems

The concept of the neutrosophic hypersoft set (NHSS) is a parameterized family that deals with the subattributes of the parameters and is a proper extension of the neutrosophic soft set to accurately assess the deficiencies, anxiety, and uncertainty in decision-making. Compared with existing research, NHSS can accommodate more uncertainty, which is the most significant technique for describing fuzzy information in the decision-making process.

New Perspectives on the Caledonides of Scandinavia and Related Areas

The Caledonides are a major orogenic belt that stretches from the Arctic, through Scandinavia, East Greenland, Britain and Ireland into the Atlantic coast of North America. Following the break-up of Rodinia, the Caledonides formed in the Palaeozoic by the drifting of various continents and their eventual aggregation in the Silurian and Devonian. The orogen subsequently fragmented during the opening of the Atlantic Ocean. This volume brings together 25 papers presenting the results of modern research that investigates the orogenic processes and the provenance of specific components of the belt. The contributions reflect different lines of research, linking traditional field studies with modern analytical techniques. In addition three overview papers summarize the main features of the belts in Scandinavia, Svalbard, East Greenland, Britain and Ireland, highlighting the advances made since the last major synthesis of the Scandinavian Caledonides 30 years ago, and discussing important open questions.
