The International Crimes Tribunal in Bangladesh
"The International Crimes Tribunal in Bangladesh was established in 2010 with the aim of bringing to trial perpetrators of crimes committed during the Liberation War in 1971, through which the country seceded from Pakistan. The International Crimes Tribunal is a domestic tribunal based on the International Crimes Tribunals Act from 1973 and the rules of procedure enacted by the Tribunal itself. The initiation of these trials almost 40 years after the war entails several challenges. The publication examines to what extent the Tribunal's legal framework as well as its jurisprudence comply with international standards as established in international treaties, customary international law and in the jurisprudence of international criminal law. To this end, the substantive law and its interpretation as well as the procedural standards applied at these trials are examined thoroughly. At the same time, the analysis takes into account the political environment surrounding the Tribunal's work and assesses its impact on the country?s process of coming to terms with the past."--

Zimbabwe has had a chaotic foreign direct investment (FDI) regime. This has created the need for a detailed volume on the most important developments around the protection and treatment of FDI, at not only a domestic level, but also at bilateral, regional and international levels. The author argues that while Zimbabwe has now harmonised, previously scattered legislation under the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency Act [Chapter 14:37] and taken measures to reverse (to varying degrees) controversial policies such as the land reform programme and the Indigestion and Economic Empowerment Policy, scepticism still prevails over the investor-friendliness of the FDI regime in Zimbabwe.
Dark Pedagogy
Dark pedagogy explores how different perspectives can be incorporated into a darker understanding of environmental and sustainability education. Drawing on the work of the classic horror author H.P. Lovecraft and new materialist insights of speculative realism, the authors link Lovecraft’s ‘tales of the horrible’ to the current spectres of environmental degradation, climate change, and pollution. In doing so, they draw parallels between how humans have always related to the ‘horrible’ things that are scaled beyond our understanding and how education can respond to an era of climate catastrophe in the age of the Anthropocene. A new and darker understanding of environmental and sustainability education is thus developed: using the tripartite reaction pattern of denial, insanity and death to frame the narrative, the book subsequently examines the specific challenges of potentials of developing education and pedagogy for an age of mass extinction. This unflinching book will appeal to students and scholars of dark pedagogies as well as those interested in environment and sustainability education.
