O "Direito", assim como o "Estado" e a "Sociedade", é uma imensa avenida por onde passa grande parte das questões da humanidade. Isso não significa dizer que essas avenidas não possuem cruzamentos, intersecções. Pelo contrário, é nos pontos de encontro que se manifesta a maior profusão de sabores, de cores, de conhecimento. Destarte, relacionar Direito, Estado e Sociedade não é tarefa fácil. São muitos cruzamentos possíveis! E é bom que se tenha a premissa ou compreensão de que é necessário entrelaçar estes conceitos ou destacar as suas intersecções ou locais em que se tocam e se encontram para melhor dimensionar várias questões tão caras para a contemporaneidade. A presente obra tem o mérito de discutir sobre múltiplas questões, notadamente marcadas pelo campo jurídico ou, como na metáfora por nós empregada, pela avenida do Direito, que indubitavelmente tocam a avenida do Estado e da Sociedade, em um desses cruzamentos.

Os estudos empreendidos nesse trabalho pretendem contribu-ir para dimensionar os territórios sócio-histórico de campos do conhecimento que trazem no bojo da discussão a tríade: Educação, História e Desenvolvimento Regional. O hori-zonte que pauta os doze capítulos dessa obra buscam aden-trar no debate do Desenvolvimento Regional identificando diversos grupos sociais na constituição histórica do ser hu-mano e, por consequência, discutem a centralidade do traba-lhador na constituição da sociedade. Trazer olhares diversificados sobre a mesma temática permite ampliarmos nosso escopo conceitual, bem como exercitar o movimento transdisciplinar de estudar novos objetos e novas metodologias. Nessa assertiva, administradores, agrônomos, educadores, filósofos, geógrafos, juristas e historiadores, buscam nesse momento sentarem-se à mesa para elaborarem uma discussão que ultrapasse a simples conceituação desses objetos pelo seu prisma de formação.
Cosmos, Self, and History in Baniwa Religion
The Baniwa Indians of the Northwest Amazon have engaged in millenarian movements since at least the middle of the nineteenth century. The defining characteristic of these movements is usually a prophecy of the end of this present world and the restoration of the primordial, utopian world of creation. This prophetic message, delivered by powerful shamans, has its roots in Baniwa myths of origin and creation. In this ethnography of Baniwa religion, Robin M. Wright explores the myths of creation and how they have been embodied in religious movements and social action--particularly in a widespread conversion to evangelical Christianity. He opens with a discussion of cosmogony, cosmology, and shamanism and then goes on to explain how Baniwa origin myths have played an active role in shaping both personal and community identity and history. He also explores the concepts of death and eschatology and shows how the mythology of destruction and renewal in Baniwa religion has made the Baniwa people receptive to both Catholic and Protestant missionaries.

Au défi d'impossibles missions entre développement durable, aide d'urgence et services aux communautés, en quête de statut et de légitimité, à la charnière entre l'Etat et les populations, les ONG sont aujourd'hui victimes de leur popularité et de leur montée en puissance. Nationales ou étrangères, ONG de développement, d'urgence ou humanitaire, elles sont nombreuses sur la scène des pays en développement. Pourtant le rôle et la place qu'elles occupent dans de nombreux domaines de l'action publique les rendent aujourd'hui suspectes de contribuer à l'affaiblissement de l'Etat et de se laisser transformer en instruments du néo-libéralisme dominant. Qu'en est-il de ce débat en Europe mais aussi dans les pays de l'aire lusophone (Portugal, Mozambique, Angola, Brésil...), où la société civile est partout appelée à se mobiliser contre la pauvreté et les inégalités croissantes ou même encore contre la violence et la guerre ?
