A quinta Revista Observatório é resultado do seminário internacional A Cultura pela Cidade – uma Nova Gestão Cultural da Cidade, organizado pelo Observatório Itaú Cultural. A proposta do seminário foi promover a troca de experiências entre pesquisadores e gestores do Brasil, da Espanha, do México, do Canadá, da Alemanha e da Escócia que utilizaram a cultura como principal elemento revitalizador de suas cidades. Nesta edição, além dos textos especialmente escritos para o seminário, estão duas entrevistas para a reflexão sobre o uso da cultura para o desenvolvimento social: uma com Alfons Martinell Sempere, professor da Universidade de Girona, e outra com a professora Maria Christina Barbosa de Almeida, então diretora da biblioteca da ECA/USP e atual diretora da Biblioteca Mário de Andrade. A revista número 5 inaugura a seção de crítica literária, com um artigo sobre Henri Lefebvre e algumas indicações bibliográficas.
