A tendência dos estudos do século xxi sobre a mesa tem sido de privilegiar as abordagens multi- e transdisciplinares. Aliás é na sua aceção holística que usamos o termo mesa, universo que engloba bens, pessoas e ideias. Refletir hoje sobre a mesa constitui um processo de indagação atento a três dos principais pilares da relação do homem com o alimento, ao longo de toda a sua história: alimentação, saúde e cultura. A presente obra tem por tema as Mesas Luso-brasileiras e está organizado em dois volumes, contendo cinco partes e um total de 25 capítulos.Os 13 capítulos que encabeçam o primeiro volume focam em dois temas centrais: o alimento sob o prisma terapêutico e simbólico. Na Parte I (Mesas Terapêuticas: quando o alimento é medicamento), evidencia-se o fato de que, historicamente, os escritos médicos precederam a literatura culinária. Na Parte II (Mesas Sagradas: quando o alimento é símbolo) remete-se à mesa como resposta e veículo de diálogo com o transcendente.
Urban Transformations in the Late Antique West: Materials, Agents, and Models
This volume is the fruit of a highly productive international research gathering academic and professional (field- and museum) colleagues to discuss new results and approaches, recent finds and alternative theoretical assessments of the period of transition and transformation of classical towns in Late Antiquity. Experts from an array of modern countries attended and presented to help compare and contrast critically archaeologies of diverse regions and to debate the qualities of the archaeology and the current modes of study. While a number of papers inevitably focused on evidence available for both Spain and Portugal, we were delighted to have a spread of contributions that extended the picture to other territories in the Late Roman West and Mediterranean. The emphasis was very much on the images presented by archaeology (rescue and research works, recent and past), but textual data were also brought into play by various contributors.

Herodotean Soundings
This volume is dedicated to the logos of Cambyses at the beginning of Book 3 in Herodotus' Histories, one of the few sources on the Persian conquest of Egypt that has not yet been exhaustively explored in its complexity. The contributions of this volume deal with the motivations and narrative strategies behind Herodotus' characterization of the Persian king but also with the geopolitical background of Cambyses' conquest of Egypt as well as the reception of the Cambyses logos by later ancient authors. "Herodotean Soundings: The Cambyses Logos" exemplifies how a multidisciplinary approach can contribute significantly to a better understanding of a complex work such as Herodotus' Histories.

Obras morais: sobre o afecto dos filhos: sobre a música (2.ª edição)
O tratado Sobre o Afecto aos Filhos encerra uma lição moral clara, a saber: ‘a finalidade de ter filhos e criá-los reside não na utilidade mas no amor’ (496 C). Toda a argumentação de Plutarco visa provar a verdade da fundamentação afetiva para a procriação e educação dos filhos. Ou seja, estamos perante mais um escrito em que se revela a preferência do Autor por abordar os valores da família e, muito em particular, por realçar a base emotiva em que assentam os laços da philia entre progenitores e respetiva prole. O livro Sobre a Música, de Plutarco, é um dos documentos mais importantes que possuímos sobre a história e a teoria da música na Antiguidade Clássica. Nele encontramos informações de grande relevância, especialmente sobre os períodos mais recuados da história da música e da poesia gregas antigas. Além disso, nele encontramos também testemunhos de autores dos séculos V e IV a. C. sobre a teoria musical grega acessíveis somente nesta obra.
