After forty-five years of strict rule, it took nothing less than a miracle for communism in Romania to fall in such a short period of nine days. When Nicholas was sixteen, his father sent him to visit friends in England in care of a man who betrayed his trust and sold Nicholas into indenturehood in the West Indies. After Nicholas had completed his indenturehood, he immigrated to Weymouth, Massachusetts, and married Susanna Shaw. They later moved to Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, California and elsewhere.
