Choosing material that we anticipate you didnt know you wanted to know was a significant challenge. We were required to make a distinction between four things: stuff you wanted to know, but knew you wanted to know; things that you didnt know but knew you didnt know and didnt want to; things you didnt know, didnt know you didnt know, but wouldnt want to even if you did; and most elusive of all, things you didnt know you even wanted to know, but would soon discover that you wanted to, once you knew them. Fortuna
I chose to use the image of a tile as the cover of Fortuna because, for me, that's how the story began - with a small piece of red tile that washed up on the beach on Long Beach Island, New Jersey in 1970. More than half a century before, the Fortuna, loaded with roofing tiles for ballast, set sail on a two-year voyage to New York. Just short of her final destination, she became one more shipwreck off the coast of Long Beach Island. Those tiles were her calling cards. Fortuna almost ended the same as it started. While photographing the tile for the cover of this book, a huge wave came in and washed the tile back into the sea. But, like all the other pieces of this story that landed at my feet, the tile washed back onto the beach five days later.

Vietnam War Films
This is the filmography. There are 137 Vietnamese films not before noted in the literature. The French coverage is of course comprehensive. As for the U.S., the so-called covert Vietnam films (Soldier Blue, Little Big Man, etc.) that treat the war in an indirect or allegorical way are covered in addition to the mainstream movies. Each entry includes title, alternate titles, year of release, country, studio, credits (director, producer, screenplay, editor, music, cast), availability on video, major themes, plot synopses, and critical commentary on the film and its relevance to Vietnam. The cooperation of the Office of the General Secretary of the Vietnamese Filmmakers' Association and the Vietnamese material from the years 1959 through 1989.
