Der Forschungsverbund GINT, zugleich niedersächsisches Promotionsprogramm an der Universität Oldenburg, erforscht kognitive und motivationale Prozesse beim außerschulischen Lernen. Die Fachstelle für Didaktik Ausserschulischer Lernorte (FDAL) der PH Luzern leistet interdisziplinäre Beiträge zur Theorie, Empirie und Pragmatik des Lernens an Ausserschulischen Lernorten.
