This book explains to physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, interested physicians and clinicians the theoretical and practical applications of single- to multi-channel functional electrical stimulation for a wide range of neurological symptoms. The targeted electrical stimulation of several muscle groups, timed to each other, can initiate and support a complete movement sequence and thus improve motor learning. Renowned experts from research and practice have compiled numerous application examples based on the available evidence in this comprehensive form for the first time. In addition, the reader will find exciting and informative contributions to the current stu...

On 22 June 2018 the 12th Colloquium on Criminal Law and Justice took place in Göttingen, followed by a farewell symposium for Jörg-Martin Jehle on the next day. In the same year, Jörg-Martin Jehle retired after 22 years of work at the Georg August University of Göttingen. This event coincided with the 50th anniversary of criminology in Göttingen, the topic of the 12th Colloquium. This book is based on these occasions, but also contains some additional articles in honor of Jörg-Martin Jehle from close companions, who for different reasons were not able to participate in the two events. This volume comprises articles on the history of criminological research at Göttingen University and on the topics of custodial sanctions, offender research, sentencing effects, penal law reform as well as historical and international perspectives. All the papers are related to the research work of Jörg-Martin Jehle.
The experience of networks as the immediate sensing of relations between humans and nonhuman technical elements in assemblages such as viral media and databases. Today almost every aspect of life for which data exists can be rendered as a network. Financial data, social networks, biological ecologies: all are visualized in links and nodes, lines connecting dots. A network visualization of a corporate infrastructure could look remarkably similar to that of a terrorist organization. In An Aesthesia of Networks, Anna Munster argues that this uniformity has flattened our experience of networks as active and relational processes and assemblages. She counters the “network anaesthesia” that res...
Exploring the economic, sociological, and philosophical implications of property, this book aims to overcome the conceptual and ideological limitations inherited from 19th-century debates and legal developments. It introduces a new conceptual framework that substitutes the term »property« with the terms »having« and the neologism »havings«, analyzed through two dimensions: the action modes of having (appropriation, recognition, and assignment) and the structural modes of havings (possession, ownership, and property). After presenting two case studies, the final chapter outlines a new economic system that moves beyond the polarity of capitalism and socialism, grounded in the multidimensionality of having. The study addresses a wider audience in economics, social sciences, philosophy, and jurisprudence. Open Access eBook available https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/legalcode
Between Sword and Prayer is a broad-ranging anthology focused on the involvement of medieval clergy in warfare and a variety of related military activities. The essays address, on the one hand, the issue of clerical participation in combat, in organizing military campaigns, and in armed defense, and on the other, questions surrounding the political, ideological, or religious legitimization of clerical military aggression. These perspectives are further enriched by chapters dealing with the problem of the textual representation of clergy who actively participated in military affairs. The essays in this volume span Latin Christendom, encompassing geographically the four corners of medieval Europe: Western, East-Central, Northern Europe, and the Mediterranean. Contributors are Carlos de Ayala Martínez, Geneviève Bührer-Thierry, Chris Dennis, Pablo Dorronzoro Ramírez, Lawrence G. Duggan, Daniel Gerrard, Robert Houghton, Carsten Selch Jensen, Radosław Kotecki, Jacek Maciejewski, Ivan Majnarić, Monika Michalska, Michael Edward Moore, Craig M. Nakashian, John S. Ott, Katherine Allen Smith, and Anna Waśko.
