A presente obra procura oferecer alternativas de reflexão histórica, do ponto de vista teórico-metodológico, acerca da historiografia do cinema brasileiro, entre os anos de 1960 e 1990. Tal empreendimento é efetuado com base no resgate da historicidade da trilogia de textos presentes em Cinema: trajetória no subdesenvolvimento (1980), do crítico de cinema que se fez historiador Paulo Emílio Salles Gomes (1916-1977). A principal hipótese defendida consiste na ideia de que tais textos se constituíram numa matriz interpretativa da história do cinema nacional, surgida em meados dos anos de 1960 e parcialmente esgotada ao final dos anos de 1990. Em vista do que foi produzido, convidamos os leitores a mergulharem na história e historiografia da Sétima Arte brasileira na companhia de um de seus personagens principais, o crítico Paulo Emílio Salles Gomes!
