In an increasingly crowded world reconciling environmental?conservation' with the?sustainable use' of natural resources is now our greatest challenge. Nature conservation has traditionally focused on protecting iconic and important areas of biodiversity from human exploitation through the establishment of National Parks and World Heritage Areas. The Dragonfly Nymphs of Thailand (Odonata : Anisoptera)
This unique work is the first reference that provides detailed descriptions of the fully developed larvae of the Odonata suborder Anisoptera, including keys to families and genera, high resolution photographs, distribution maps, and an up-dated list of the dragonfly species from Thailand. Also, because the adults are so well known in this country, this book will provide completion to our understanding of the life cycle of an entire fauna. Through the six chapters of this book, the reader will find an introduction with generalities of the order Odonata, a description of the morphology of a dragonfly larva with emphasis in the structures used in the keys, a brief description of Thailands geography, relief, hydrology, climate, precipitation, agriculture, history, and faunal studies, and detailed descriptions of each of the 82 genera of Anisoptera of Thailand whose larvae are known. This book will have broad appeal in the large community of odonatists around the world and for the aquatic entomologists, ecologists, and conservationists interested in the Southeast Asian fauna in general.
Accessing Biodiversity and Sharing the Benefits
The book aims to address the lack of information on the experiences of others by providing a comparative analysis of national access and benefit-sharing laws and policies in the 41 Pacific Rim countries that signed the CBD. It provides key insights on the main characteristics of selected access and benefit-sharing (ABS) policies and laws, their development, and implementation process. It contains a detailed comparative analysis of existing laws and policies. It presents four case studies of countries with regulations in place and contrasts them with four case studies of countries that are struggling to develop their regulations. It ends by discussing options of an international regime on ABS and a summary analysis of the main lessons and recommendations from the study.
