An Introduction to Experimental Nuclear Reactions is a book with a concise and simple approach to the subject of experimental nuclear physics. The subject being very technical, it is dealt with in a lucid way so that the reader can grasp the concept and later gain hands-on experience while doing fieldwork. In this book, theoretical, experimental and instrumentation aspects are covered with an emphasis on accelerator-based techniques, which form the basis for the subject of experimental nuclear physics. Other books on similar topics either concentrate on the physics aspects or are more focussed on the instrumentation and radiation detection techniques while accelerator-related concepts are le...
This book analyzes India’s impressive efforts in responding to sensational and easily visible disasters in contrast to the ‘silent emergency’ of drought-induced under nutrition and starvation deaths. Building on Amartya Sen’s famous claim that no famine has ever occurred in a democratic country, it re-examines the relationship between democracy, public action and famine prevention. Drawing on both quantitative and qualitative data in India at national, state and local levels as well as in-depth field visits to two states on India’s east coast, Orissa and West Bengal, the author analyzes the following issues: the interaction between specific institutions in India and their accountab...
This study explores the relationship between the state and democracy in India in the late 1980s, through an examination of" challenges to state policy in three important areas: welfare, secularism and development. It was inspired by the observation that, while there are several studies analysing the relationship of democracy and development - albeit mostly of how democracy constrains development - as well as some studies of the impact of democracy on governability, there appears to be no cross-sectoral investigation into the question of the impact of democratic institutions and processes on state-initiated goals of social transformation, and its ability to effect these. This is the gap that this study seeks to fill.
This book presents an in-depth analysis of key recommendations of the consecutive state finance commissions (SFCs) across states of India in the local and national perspective. It reviews the working of SFCs and their critical role in strengthening local governments, both Panchayats and municipalities in the various states. The volume attempts to identify some of the emerging issues related to the efficacy of SFC in fiscal decentralization. It appraises nearly eighty SFC reports and actions taken thereon by the respective State Governments with contextual analysis.
The Last Mile explores the gaps and dichotomy between drafted policies and their implementation, and the last mile challenges which often make public services inaccessible to the poorest and most vulnerable sections of society. It provides an in-depth overview of the dynamics between communities, research and consultation and the implementation of policies for development. Rich in empirical data and case studies from different government programmes and reports, this book examines the implementation of government service programmes for poverty reduction, women’s empowerment, and income generation for the poor, among others, from a people’s perspective. It highlights the need for policies ...
In the past three decades our understanding of the clustering behavior of nucleons in both nuclear structure and nuclear dynamics has evolved considerably. Moreover, the notion of the cluster has made its way into a number of scientific disciplines. This book provides an overview of the current understanding of clustering phenomena in nuclear structure and nuclear dynamics. The topics covered include: fundamental aspects of nuclear clustering, models of nucleon clusterization, clustering aspects of nuclear structure, selected topics on clustering aspects in medium- and high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Management of Self & Performance, the topic centered round with the within power of the Author, focus has been put and emphasis has been given on the psycho-behavioural conflict of his mind pertaining to life in acute poverty and adverse conditions; Consciousness remained with him like a friend during his early childhood days, during his school days, college days and various hazardous work place situations. He did not realise consciousness as a great power, was guiding him by overcoming so many obstacles in his life. Realisation of within power came to him when he studied management. More than knowledge and skill; human behaviour, human values, interest to learn, devotion, dedication and com...
