Introduction to Complex Plasmas

Introduction to Complex Plasmas

Complex plasmas differ from traditional plasmas in many ways: these are low-temperature high pressure systems containing nanometer to micrometer size particles which may be highly charged and strongly interacting. The particles may be chemically reacting or be in contact with solid surfaces, and the electrons may show quantum behaviour. These interesting properties have led to many applications of complex plasmas in technology, medicine and science. Yet complex plasmas are extremely complicated, both experimentally and theoretically, and require a variety of new approaches which go beyond standard plasma physics courses. This book fills this gap presenting an introduction to theory, experiment and computer simulation in this field. Based on tutorial lectures at a very successful recent Summer Institute, the presentation is ideally suited for graduate students, plasma physicists and experienced undergraduates.

In The Power of the Sacred, Hans Joas develops a new sociological theory of religion by reconstructing existing scientific theories of religion, from the eighteenth century to the present. Through a critical reading and reasssessment of key texts, Joas proposes an alternative to the narratives of disenchantment and secularization which have dominated debates on the topic. He further offers the most thorough reconstruction of the meaning of this concept, demonstrates how problematic it is for an appropriate understanding of religion in modernity, and presents the basic features of an alternative.

The fascinating correspondence of the Berlin lawyer and musician Christian Gottfried Krause is an important document reflecting the trends and developments in aesthetics, music theory and music making in the Prussian capital during the reign of Frederick the Great. Krause's letters shed light on the rise of a bourgeois music culture, which during h

Controversy and Challenge

In this study the engagement of scholars in theology and religious studies with Freudian psychoanalysis is examined. The book focuses on the explicit or implicit theological ideas and aims that have determined its reception. The analysis includes a review of Freud's theories as suggestions for reconfigurations of psychoanalysis are made in order to further theorize on concepts or fields of attention that are important in theology and religious studies. The aim of this double critical review is to establish what the theoretical potential of Freud's psychoanalysis might be.

If you've been playing golf for long, you know it's true that…size doesn't matter! You've seen puny punks blast drives deep down the middle and you've seen short, skinny fellows bomb their drives 300 yards or more.Hopefully you haven't suffered the humiliation of being badly outdriven by some scrawny golfer that looks like he hasn't eaten in a month! It used to happen to me on a regular basis…but not anymore!I got so sick and tired of being called a “short knocker” that I decided to do something about it. And after years of intense and exhaustive research, I finally discovered the simple secret to adding 30 yards (or more) to your drives faster than you ever imagined possible.I've dis...
