This Palgrave Handbook examines the ways in which researchers and practitioners theorise, analyse, produce and make use of testimony. It explores the full range of testimony in the public sphere, including perpetrator testimony, testimony presented through social media and virtual reality. A growing body of research shows how complex and multi-layered testimony can be, how much this complexity adds to our understanding of our past, and how creators and users of testimony have their own complex purposes. Holocaust Education in Primary Schools in the Twenty-First Century
This collection is the first of its kind, bringing together Holocaust educational researchers as well as school and museum educators from across the globe, to discuss the potentials of Holocaust education in relation to primary school children. Its contributors are from countries that have a unique relationship with the Holocaust, such as Germany, Israel, neutral Switzerland, and Allied countries outside the UK. Their research provides new insight into the diverse ways in which primary aged students engage with Holocaust education. Chapters explore the impact of teaching the Holocaust to this age group, school and museum teaching pedagogies, and primary students’ perspectives of the Holocaust. This book will appeal to school and museum educators of primary aged students whose work requires them to teach the Holocaust, Citizenship (or Civics) or Human Rights Education. Geschichtsvermittlung postkolonial
Postkoloniale Theorie polarisiert: Den einen gilt sie als »Supertheorie« für das Zeitalter der Globalisierung, anderen dagegen als elitärer Diskurs, der zu konfliktfördernder Identitätspolitik führt. Doch welche Rolle kann sie für die geschichtsdidaktische Theorie und den Geschichtsunterricht spielen? Philipp Bernhard prüft diese Frage anhand einer systematischen geschichtsdidaktischen Analyse »postkolonialer« Lehr-Lernmaterialien. Er leitet daraus vier Grundüberlegungen (»Claims«) für eine Umsetzung postkolonialer Theorieansätze in der Geschichtsvermittlung ab. Dabei zeigt sich: Die Geschichtsdidaktik muss die Postkoloniale Theorie kritisch reflektieren, kann aber auf deren Impulse für die Weiterentwicklung von Theorie und (Unterrichts-)Praxis nicht verzichten.
Holocaust Education Revisited

Politische Bildung und Zukunft
Politische Bildung bezieht ihren Sinngehalt u. a. aus der Idee einer gelingenden Begegnung mit dem Zukünftigen. Im 3. Jahrtausend muss sie sich allerdings – jenseits der Alternative zwischen einer unausweichlichen, düsteren Katastrophe und einem naiven Machbarkeitsoptimismus – der Frage nach der (un)möglichen Gestaltbarkeit der Zukunft stellen. Denn im Anthropozän wird die Zukunft zunehmend brüchig. Das wirft Fragen von zentraler Bedeutung auf. Wie kann sich die politische Bildung zukünftig auf das Zukünftige beziehen? Welche Themen und Fragen werden zukünftig wichtig sein? Welche didaktischen Methoden und Prinzipien sind zukünftig noch tragfähig? In den Beiträgen wird mit unterschiedlichen Schwerpunkten nach Antworten gesucht.
