Christophe Plantin, le plus célèbre imprimeur belge de tous les temps, est né en France vers 1520. À l'âge de trente ans, il se fixe avec femme et enfant à Anvers où il fonde l'Officina Plantiniana. L'entreprise ne tarde pas à devenir une multinationale comptant des filiales à Francfort, Leyde et Paris. Christophe Plantin's Correspondence. Perspectives on Life and Work as a Publisher in 16th-century Europe
In de 16de eeuw was Antwerpen een belangrijk humanistisch centrum. De ideale omgeving voor boekbinder-drukker en eersteklas netwerker Christoffel Plantijn. Via brieven hield hij contact met figuren zoals de geleerde Justus Lipsius, de kaartenmaker Abraham Ortelius en de plantkundige Rembert Dodoens. Dit boek bundelt de brieven die het meest tot de verbeelding spreken en die de uitgever-zakenman in volle actie tonen: terwijl hij auteurs ronselt, een Bijbelvertaling opstart, problemen met personeel oplost en nog veel meer.
