This book introduces multiagent planning under uncertainty as formalized by decentralized partially observable Markov decision processes (Dec-POMDPs). The intended audience is researchers and graduate students working in the fields of artificial intelligence related to sequential decision making: reinforcement learning, decision-theoretic planning for single agents, classical multiagent planning, decentralized control, and operations research.

A Letter from Sicily

A Letter from Sicily is a sweeping family saga that explores immigration in a way that's both timely and timeless; the dramatic story follows a young orphan who struggles after leaving Sicily for the United States, and his grandson, who, more than one hundred years later, travels to Italy to explore his heritage-and falls in love. The story captures, in cinematic style, all that family life entails: love, loss, yearning, togetherness, and separation, as well as contemplating and remembering one's roots. "Christopher Amato tells a captivating story of hope, survival, love and the innate quest to learn about one's family roots." - Jacqueline Alio, author of Women of Sicily: Saints, Queens and ...

Distributed Artificial Intelligence

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on Distributed Artificial Intelligence, DAI 2021, held in Shanghai, China, in December 2021. The 15 full papers presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 31 submissions. DAI aims at bringing together international researchers and practitioners in related areas including general AI, multiagent systems, distributed learning, computational game theory, etc., to provide a single, high-profile, internationally renowned forum for research in the theory and practice of distributed AI.

Transfer Learning for Multiagent Reinforcement Learning Systems

Learning to solve sequential decision-making tasks is difficult. Humans take years exploring the environment essentially in a random way until they are able to reason, solve difficult tasks, and collaborate with other humans towards a common goal. Artificial Intelligent agents are like humans in this aspect. Reinforcement Learning (RL) is a well-known technique to train autonomous agents through interactions with the environment. Unfortunately, the learning process has a high sample complexity to infer an effective actuation policy, especially when multiple agents are simultaneously actuating in the environment. However, previous knowledge can be leveraged to accelerate learning and enable s...

The Pan-industrial Revolution

A stunning look at what will happen to global industry as 3-D printing becomes a worldwide phenomenon. Richard D'Aveni contends that this is beginning to happen now and will have far-reaching effects that most corporate and governmental leaders have yet to anticipate.

Algorithmic Foundations of Robotics XV

This book includes significant recent research on robotic algorithms. It has been written by leading experts in the field. The 15th Workshop on the Algorithmic Foundations of Robotics (WAFR) was held on June 22–24, 2022, at the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland. Each chapter represents an exciting state-of-the-art development in robotic algorithms that was presented at this 15th incarnation of WAFR. Different chapters combine ideas from a wide variety of fields, spanning and combining planning (for tasks, paths, motion, navigation, coverage, and patrol), computational geometry and topology, control theory, machine learning, formal methods, game theory, information theory, and theoretical computer science. Many of these papers explore new and interesting problems and problem variants that include human–robot interaction, planning and reasoning under uncertainty, dynamic environments, distributed decision making, multi-agent coordination, and heterogeneity.

Distributed Planning for Self-Organizing Production Systems

- Most production processes are rigid not only by way of the physical layout of machines and their integration, but also by the custom programming of the control logic for the integration of components to a production systems. Changes are time- and resource-expensive. This makes the production of small lot sizes of customized products economically challenging. This work develops solutions for the automated adaptation of production systems based on self-organisation and distributed planning.
