Against the Undertow

You never know what will drag you down. Former actress Tish Yearly is determined to turn an old Orcas Island homestead into the premier wedding venue in the San Juans Islands of Washington, but money, skill and her grandfather, Tobias Yearly, are all standing in her way. Tobias, the septuagenarian ex-CIA agent, wants them to become private investigators. Tish might be able to ignore her grandfather’s whims, except that her one time love interest and current friend, handsome Sheriff’s Deputy Emmett Nash, was just accused of murdering his ex-wife’s boyfriend. Now Tish and Tobias are on the case, and it should be easy—after all, who could really think Nash was a killer?—but the further they investigate, the more people seem to be threatening her life: the police detective on the case, Nash’s angry ex-wife, his psychotic ex-girlfriend, and a strangely venomous group of hippies. Almost everyone on the island seems determined to stop her. Tish is swimming against the undertow, but it might not be enough to save either Nash or herself.

Multiculturalism and Integration

Multiculturalism and Integration provides new insights into the important issues of diversity, reasonable accommodation and identity construction in multicultural societies by examining the experiences of Canada and Ireland. While these two societies share many historical and cultural links, their differences help reveal the range of possible approaches to these important issues. Multicultural and multilingual diversity in contemporary Ireland are fairly recent phenomena, whereas Canada’s policies and practices addressing cultural and linguistic diversity are several decades old. This basic difference has influenced their laws, language policies, education systems, cultural creations, and national identities as they have worked to accommodate multiculturalism. The volume brings together an international group of scholars working in a variety of fields including politics, law, sociolinguistics, literature, philosophy, and history. Their interdisciplinary approach addresses the complex factors influencing integration and multiculturalism, painting detailed and accurate portraits of these issues in Canada and Ireland.

An Unfinished Storm

Former actress Tish Yearly washed up on her grandfather’s doorstep after being fired, robbed, and evicted all the same day. Now, two years later Tish has a burgeoning business as the owner of a wedding and events venue on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. But when Hollywood knocked on her door, Tish found herself turning down the part of a lifetime for a new dream – being a producer. But having persuaded a bevy of Hollywood insiders to film a movie on Orcas Island, persuaded her boyfriend that she's not leaving him to be a star, and persuaded Matt Jones, the islands most reputable drug dealer, to help bank roll the film, Tish Yearly has a lot riding on things going well. But when the movie's director turns up dead, Tish can see a storm is about to hit. Now Tish and Tobias are racing against the clock to solve the case before the movie folds or Tish ends up in jail for a murder she didn't commit.

An Unfamiliar Sea

You never know which way is home when the storm hits. Tish Yearly is about to open a wedding venue on Orcas Island, in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. All she wants is to sail through her first wedding, figure out why her best friend isn’t talking to her, and tell her grandfather she’s dating someone he doesn’t approve of, but before she can get to any of that, Tish’s favorite employee turns up dead—apparently drowned in four inches of water. Now Tish is wading through the suspects including a meth-cooking uncle, a brother with anger-management issues, and the mysterious island drug kingpin, who may or may not be going straight. Tish is attempting to navigate this unfamiliar sea, but she may not be able to weather the storms and find her way home.

The Cambridge History of the Book in Britain is an authoritative series which surveys the history of publishing, bookselling, authorship and reading in Britain. This seventh and final volume surveys the twentieth and twenty-first centuries from a range of perspectives in order to create a comprehensive guide, from growing professionalisation at the beginning of the twentieth century, to the impact of digital technologies at the end. Its multi-authored focus on the material book and its manufacture broadens to a study of the book's authorship and readership, and its production and dissemination via publishing and bookselling. The fashion label Junky Styling grew out the authors' passion for transforming secondhand clothing into innovative fashion statements that showcase the wearer's individual style and flair. In this book, Annika Sanders and Kerry Seager record the origins of the company, from the clothes being worn by the authors in London clubs in the nineties to a small retail shop to a successful fashion label. This beautifully illustrated book also shows readers how they can perform "wardrobe surgery" by deconstructing, recutting, and completely transforming their discarded clothes and fabrics into inspired designs. Whether you are a fashion student, home sewer, entrepreneur, environmentalist, or serious fashionista, Junky Styling is both a practical resource and a thought-provoking inspiration that will guide you through a completely new way of looking at the relationship between clothes, resources, and style.

The Lens

Which lens should I buy for my camera? It's such a simple question, but choosing the right lens or lenses is actually one of the most important photographic decisions you can make. Nothing affects the quality of a photo more than the lens. It's no longer just about the megapixels-it's the glass that makes all the difference! Many first-time buyers of DSLRs don't venture past the basic lens included in the box. While some are reluctant to spend more money, others are confused by all the buzzwords or are overwhelmed by all the choices out there. It's really a shame, because interchangeable lenses give you amazing scope for quality photography. Take in vast sweeping scenes with a wide angle len...
