Adopting a dialectical perspective towards reality, social theory has always detected faults in the dominant social pattern, foreseeing crises and outlining in advance the features of new social models. Thought has always moved faster than reality and its ruling models, ensuring a dynamic equilibrium during modernity. Despite any dramatic social crisis, theory has always provided exit routes. The tragedy of current crisis lies in the fact that its social implications are exasperated by the absence of alternative views. This book identifies the causes of this mismatch between thought and reality, and illustrates a way out.

I tabù sulla maternità cominciano a infrangersi, le donne prendono la parola per raccontarsi, per narrare i loro corpi feriti, le loro vite stravolte, i loro equilibri compromessi. A partire da un corpus di romanzi, memoir, scritti autobiografici, film e documentari prodotti dal 2010 a oggi, Ramona Onnis esplora gli aspetti politici e sociali del desiderio e della rinuncia alla maternità attraverso la prospettiva travagliata, talvolta inconfessabile, del racconto personale. Ciò dando spazio anche alla vergogna, alla rabbia e al dolore, che spesso si affiancano all’ostinazione e al coraggio, necessari per affrontare il difficile percorso della Procreazione medicalmente assistita (Pma).
