This volume presents 38 papers (the majority in English) from the 3rd symposium of the International Study Group on Music Archaeology held at Michaelstein Monastery in 2002, with an additional six papers honouring Ellen Hickmann. Divided into five sections, the contributions discuss: the universals of ancient music; the methodology of music archaeology; traditions and the cultural memory; musical instruments in traditional contexts and constructions; the written evidence. The case studies cover a broad geographical range, encompassing the Near and Middle East, Asia, Australia, prehistoric and medieval Europe, Greece and Rome, the Americas and Egypt. Twenty-seven papers in English, one in French, the rest in German.

El guitarrón chileno en el canto a lo poeta es un método prácticoteórico que aborda, paso a paso, el desarrollo de la técnica del guitarrón chileno, nuestro instrumento patrimonial, para su interpretación en el género tradicional en el que se desenvuelve, el canto a lo poeta, el más antiguo propiamente chileno y que aún se mantiene vigente a través de la oralidad. Mediante distintos ejercicios y transcripciones a partituras de diferentes entonaciones, complementados con cápsulas audiovisuales a modo de tutoriales, una investigación sobre sus supuestos orígenes, su contexto, historia, organología, la forma de canto y el análisis poético-musical del estilo, esta publicación busca aportar a la enseñanza de este instrumento de una manera integral, conjugando la mirada de la tradición oral con la de la música académica para una mejor comprensión de su lenguaje y una mayor didáctica en el aprendizaje.
