Silvestre François Lacroix was not a prominent mathematical researcher, but he was certainly a most influential mathematical book author. His most famous work is the three-volume Traité du calcul différentiel et du calcul intégral, which is an encyclopedic appraisal of 18th-century calculus that remained the standard reference on the subject through much of the 19th century. This book provides the first global and detailed study of Lacroix's Traité Traité du calcul.
This is the first comprehensive International Handbook on the History of Mathematics Education, covering a wide spectrum of epochs and civilizations, countries and cultures. Until now, much of the research into the rich and varied history of mathematics education has remained inaccessible to the vast majority of scholars, not least because it has been written in the language, and for readers, of an individual country. Como docente da UFPR temos, ao longo dos anos, discutido também com colegas de diversas Universidades sobre a necessidade de ser iniciado pelos gestores do MEC um longo processo de reforma do sistema universitário brasileiro, sistema que foi imerso na banalidade por diversas administrações federais. Este livro aborda nossa proposta de solução para esse grave problema para o país, que passa pela criação composição de um grupo de trabalho a ser criado pelo MEC, com a missão de elaborar, em curto prazo, um Plano de Política Universitária para o Brasil (PPUB).
