A obra nos permite compreender o papel da arquitetura no processo de afirmação cultural, política e econômica que Curitiba de 1920 a 1990. Para isso, a narrativa do autor parte de um conjunto de idéias literárias e artísticas (que formariam um quadro de referências simbólicas), e acompanha os desenvolvimentos destas idéias na política, na economia e na arquitetura. ¿Assim, a arquitetura de Curitiba não foi analisada para explicar os sucessivos estágios da arquitetura de Curitiba, num ciclo auto-referente. Serviu, em vez disso, como um corpo documental para tentar aclarar e compreender as pessoas que fizeram e fazem a cidade de Curitiba e, por conseguinte, o Estado do Paraná e o Brasil.
