Commercial Finance, a Transactional Approach
  • Language: en

Commercial Finance, a Transactional Approach

The Commercial Finance book is designed to update (and replace) the course on "Secured Credit" traditionally taught in law school. By shifting the focus to commercial finance from Article 9, and by shifting the materials to emphasize pro-active document design and analysis as opposed to re-active case analysis, the book supports a course that is at once more consonant with the likely career paths of our students and at the same time more experiential than the doctrinal materials that they replace. The course omits the coverage of consumer transactions, which fills a large part of the traditional Secured Credit course, and substitutes a discussion of mortgages parallel to its discussion of lending under Article 9. Within the curriculum, the course parallels the course on corporate finance--covering all of the major types of lending to businesses that do not involve the public securities markets--and provides an excellent foundation for a commercial bankruptcy course. This title is accompanied by online self-assessment quizzes, tied to the text, to help you gauge your understanding of the material.

Introduction to Finance

The fifteenth edition of Introduction to Finance: Markets, Investments, and Financial Management builds upon the successes of its earlier editions while maintaining a fresh and up-to-date coverage of the field of finance. Distinguished authors Ron Melicher and Edgar Norton continue to cover the three major financial areas: institutions and markets, investments, and financial management. Their effective structure equips instructors with maximum flexibility for how the course is taught, and students with an integrated perspective of the different foundations of finance. This survey of the basic knowledge, concepts, and terms of the discipline is appropriate for all students. For those who do not plan to take additional courses in finance, it provides a valuable overview. For those who want to take additional coursework in finance, it provides a solid foundation for their future studies and careers.

The Bankable SOE

The Bankable SOE

This publication describes how state-owned enterprises (SOEs) can access finance on commercial terms, without sovereign guarantees. Doing so can create fiscal space for governments and new sources of finance for needed investment. Under Strategy 2030, the Asian Development Bank is committed to SOE reform that supports access to commercial finance in its developing member countries. The publication confirms the rise of commercial finance for SOEs and details steps to enhance the bankability of SOEs. This includes practical guidance on how to improve governance and increase financial viability. The publication also explains how the risks of such borrowing, including defaults and moral hazards created by implicit guarantees, can be managed.
