Written by noted French author, Alexandre Dumas, "La Constantin" is an essay belonging to his collected title "Celebrated Crimes" which features famous criminals and crimes from European history.
Young Quinn Campbell's greatest worries are pleasing his doting uncle, placating his fussy aunt, and doing his best to keep the quiet, brooding Agatha-a ward to his family and his best friend-happy and safe. But Quinn's active London life is suddenly spun sideways by a chance encounter with a shadowy figure in Brompton Cemetery. With the speed of a gunshot, Quinn and Agatha are kidnapped. So begins a treacherous and bone-chilling journey through the darkest parts of 1800's Europe, led by a tall, eerie and irascible captor whose motives are shady at best, whilst being pursued by factions whose intents may in fact be deadly. And along the way, Quinn might just learn a few secrets about himself-and his traveling companions-that will change him forever.

With breathtaking detail, Maria Georgiadou sheds light on the work and life of Constantin Carathéodory, who until now has been ignored by historians. In her thought-provoking book, Georgiadou maps out the mathematician’s oeuvre, life and turbulent historical surroundings. Descending from the Greek élite of Constantinople, Carathéodory graduated from the military school of Brussels, became engineer at the Assiout dam in Egypt and finally dedicated a lifetime to mathematics and education. He significantly contributed to: calculus of variations, the theory of point set measure, the theory of functions of a real variable, pdes, and complex function theory. An exciting and well-written biography, once started, difficult to put down.

Reproduction of the original: The Abbe Constantin by Ludovic Halevy
The great estate of Longueval, consisting of the castle and its dependencies, two splendid farms and a forest, is advertised for sale by auction. The Abbé Constantin, a generous, genial, self-sacrificing priest, who has been thirty years the curé of the little village, is disconsolate at the thought that all his associations must be broken up. His distress is increased when he learns that the whole property has been bought by an American millionaire. He is about to sit down to his frugal dinner in company with his godson Lieutenant Jean Renaud, the orphaned son of the good village doctor, when his vicarage is invaded by two ladies who have just arrived by train from Paris. On their arrival the plot hinges; simple as it is, it has a great charm, and the style is delightful. It sparkles with light and graceful epigrams. First published in 1882, it has had more than one hundred and fifty editions and still enjoys uninterrupted popularity both in France and in English-speaking countries.
