Die Autorin gibt Einblicke in ein bisher unbeleuchtetes Feld Sozialer Arbeit: den gesetzlichen Mitwirkungsauftrag der Jugendämter in familiengerichtlichen Verfahren bei Trennung und Scheidung. Im Mittelpunkt dieser Verfahren stehen Eltern im Konflikt um ihr gemeinsames Kind. Dem Jugendamt kommt die Aufgabe zu, das Familiengericht bei der Entscheidungsfindung zu unterstützen und fachlich zu beraten. Wie dieser gesetzlich bestimmte Mitwirkungsauftrag inhaltlich ausgeführt werden soll, lässt der Gesetzgeber offen – seine praktische Verwirklichung steht im Fokus der Studie.
Der unbestimmte Rechtsbegriff des Kindeswohls dient nicht nur als Eingriffslegitimation des Staates bei Gefährdungslagen, sondern wird auch zum Entscheidungsmaßstab.
