Telecommunications firms worldwide are actively involved in AI applications for resolving network management and telecommunications problems. This book adresses the folllowing major functional areas: planning, scheduling, monitoring, control, fault classification and diagnosis, training and help desks. Recent and emerging AI techniques are applied, including neural networks, expert systems, integrating rule-based systems with case-based reasoning systems, genetic algorithms, distribited AI and intelligent tutoring systems. Readers: researchers and professionals in telecommunication, AI experts and graduate students.
In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation;methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator ...

Nikos Skalkottas is perhaps the last great 'undiscovered' composer of the twentieth century. In the 1920s he was a promising young violinist and composer in Berlin, and a student of Schoenberg, who included him among his most gifted pupils. It was only after his return to Greece in 1933 that Skalkottas became an anonymous and obscure figure, working in complete isolation until his death in 1949. Most of his works remained unpublished and unperformed during his lifetime, and although he is largely known for his folkloristic tonal pieces, Skalkottas in fact concentrated predominantly on developing an idiosyncratic dodecaphonic musical language. Eva Mantzourani provides here a comprehensive stu...
The field of knowledge-based systems (KBS) has expanded enormously during the last years, and many important techniques and tools are currently available. Applications of KBS range from medicine to engineering and aerospace. This book provides a selected set of state-of-the-art contributions that present advanced techniques, tools and applications. These contributions have been prepared by a group of eminent researchers and professionals in the field. The theoretical topics covered include: knowledge acquisition, machine learning, genetic algorithms, knowledge management and processing under uncertainty, conflict detection and resolution, structured knowledge architectures, and natural language-based man-machine communication. The Applications include: Real-time decision support, system fault diagnosis, quality assessment, manufacturing production, robotic assembly, and robotic welding. The reader can save considerable time in searching the scattered literature in the field, and can find here a powerful set of how-to-do issues and results.
Focusing on the business aspects of interactive systems, this book pays particular attention to applications involving videotex and multimedia. The author describes the technology of these systems, presents case studies detailing their applications, and offers a methodology for planning and producing such systems. Managers, planners, and academics who wish to apply information technology for operational and strategic ends will find no other book more practical, readable, or comprehensive.
Education, employment policy, and pensions are inextricably linked and critical to any sort of business or economic revival, let alone success, and all three are addressed in Education and Employment in the European Union. In the first part of this meticulously researched and highly informative book, Dimitris Chorafas argues that European educational standards, from primary schools through to universities, leave much to be desired. The author then turns to employment. Already affected by problems with education, employment is fettered by structural issues, ranging from inflexible labour laws to heavy social costs. Here, the author suggests what might be done to get employment moving again in...
Multifractal Financial Markets explores appropriate models for estimating risk and profiting from market swings, allowing readers to develop enhanced portfolio management skills and strategies. Fractals in finance allow us to understand market instability and persistence. When applied to financial markets, these models produce the requisite amount of data necessary for gauging market risk in order to mitigate loss. This brief delves deep into the multifractal market approach to portfolio management through real-world examples and case studies, providing readers with the tools they need to forecast profound shifts in market activity.
Leadership & Management: Theory & Practice by Kris Cole focuses on comprehensive coverage of the core management units within the Diploma of Leadership and Management BSB51915 and Certificate IV in Leadership and Management BSB42015. This market-leading textbook provides students with rigorous information while balancing the key topics with a practical approach, through real-life case studies, examples and problem-solving techniques. It uses everyday business terms and language, putting management in a context that makes it easy to understand for all types of learners. Leadership & Management: Theory & Practice enables students to strengthen skills in areas such as managing poor performance, being more directive, and solving problems permanently. It is noted for its application across industry sectors and different types of business.
It is no secret that Europe is currently undergoing a major economic and social crisis, so it is essential says Dimitris Chorafas that leaders of industry and finance within the EU, or doing business with the EU, know what is going on. What is it that threatens competitiveness and produces obstacles to providing a vibrant business landscape in the European Union? This book offers insight into the particular nature of the European cocktail of business and politics, explaining how that bears on trade and relations between, for example, continental Europe and the UK, across the Atlantic with the US, with Russia and with Asia. Dr Chorafas explains and critiques Europe's conflicting aims and what...
